Russell Tuff President

I want to address a pressing concern that has been weighing heavily on our minds: the disappointing voter turnout in the recent presidential primary. It’s no secret that our community’s engagement in the democratic process fell short of our expectations. However, let us not dwell on past shortcomings, but instead, let us focus on the opportunities that lie ahead.

The upcoming primary election and general election are critical moments for our party and our nation. The decisions made during these elections will shape the course of our future and determine the direction our country will take. But to ensure that our voices are heard and our values upheld, we must rise to the occasion and actively participate in the electoral process.

The low voter turnout in the previous primary is a wake-up call for us all. It highlights the importance of civic engagement and the need for us to take ownership of our democracy. We cannot afford to sit idly by and allow others to dictate the fate of our nation. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to exercise our right to vote and to encourage others to do the same.

So, let us redouble our efforts in the days and weeks leading up to the primary election and the general election. We will continue to reach out to our fellow citizens, educate them about the candidates and issues at stake, and inspire them to cast their ballots.

We all don’t have to agree on a specific candidate, but we do need to go out and vote to ensure a robust and inclusive electoral process.

Together, we have the power to make a difference. Together, we can uphold the principles that have made our country great. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Thank you for your dedication to our party and our country. Let us go forth with determination and resolve, knowing that our efforts today will shape the tomorrow we envision.

Sincerely,

Russell Tuff

Dear Fellow Floridian,

When I came to Washington, I promised Florida families that I would fight every day to make Washington work for them – and that includes making sure the federal government keeps its promises to Florida families and doesn’t increase the cost of living. I’m hearing from Florida families every single day who are concerned about being able to pay the bills and put food on the table thanks to soaring inflation caused by Democrats’ reckless spending. It’s impacting everyone, and what’s scary is it could get worse thanks to regulations and policies the Biden administration passed just this week that I’m fighting to stop.

Florida’s seniors are facing the impacts of soaring costs and historic inflation. It’s forcing many people, including our seniors, to work multiple jobs or tap into their retirements to pay their bills. Adding insult to injury, Biden cut Medicare Advantage benefits again this week for the second year in a row. Nearly 60% of Florida’s Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage because it works. I will be fighting like hell to reverse this terrible decision that hurts our seniors and pass my Protect Our Seniors Act to stop Biden’s horrible war on seniors that is devastating for so many older Floridians. Read more HERE.

On top of that, Biden’s FEMA decided to eliminate discounts for some National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy holders in Lee County, Florida. I was proud to lead a letter urging them to reverse this terrible decision because insurance costs are already too high. This decision only makes that worse.

I’ve been fighting for years to reform the broken NFIP and lower costs for Florida families. I recently introduced several bills, including the Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which would require FEMA to offer Floridians the option to pay their flood insurance premiums monthly rather than in a larger lump sum once a year. Read more HERE.

Our country cannot afford more of Biden’s disastrous economic policies. It’s past time Washington returned to fiscal sanity and worked for you. Floridians shouldn’t have to worry about retirement, putting food on the table or affording insurance. Enough is enough, and as your U.S. Senator, I promise to keep fighting every day to get our country back on track before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

Sens. Rick Scott & Tom Cotton in Letter to Biden: Hosting Iraqi Prime Minister is Inappropriate, Undermines Israel

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tom Cotton and six of their congressional colleagues in sending a letter to President Joe Biden to express their deep concern with the White House’s plan to host Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in April.

The letter notes that President Biden’s decision to meet with Prime Minister al-Sudani at this time sends the message that the Biden administration is more interested in appeasing Iran than supporting Israel’s defeat of Hamas. The planned visit will occur even as Iraq continues to fund numerous terror groups and remains under significant Iranian influence. Co-signing the letter were Senators Ted Budd and Bill Hagerty and Congressmen Jake Ellzey, French Hill, Mike Turner and Mike Waltz.

Earlier this month, Senator Rick Scott returned from his sixth trip to Israel, where he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other high-ranking officials to discuss the United States’ and Israel’s shared priority of destroying Iran-backed Hamas terrorists that have killed thousands of individuals, including Americans since the October 7, 2023 attacks. Sen. Rick Scott Slams Biden’s Medicare Cuts

Following a decision by the Biden administration to cut Medicare Advantage benefits for the second year in a row, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement. Since being elected to the Senate, Senator Scott has fought to preserve and protect the benefits of programs like Medicare and Social Security. This Medicare Advantage benefits cut will result in the 2.8 million Florida seniors currently enrolled in Medicare Advantage, many of whom live on a fixed income, having their supplemental benefits reduced by $33 per month, or $396 per year. In Florida, 58% of Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicare Advantage. Last year, Senator Scott introduced the Protect Our Seniors Act to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden has no plan to protect Social Security, and now he just cut Medicare benefits. Biden’s war on seniors is disastrous – especially for seniors on fixed incomes who are already struggling with skyrocketing inflation. The takeaway from Biden’s actions is clear: Democrats don’t give a damn about the 2.8 MILLION Florida seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage who will see costs go up by nearly $400 a year. Nearly 60% of Florida’s Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage because it works. I will be fighting like hell to reverse this terrible decision that hurts our seniors and pass my Protect Our Seniors Act to stop Biden’s horrible war on seniors that is devastating for so many older Floridians.”

Senator Scott’s Protect Our Seniors Act includes three key provisions to protect the benefits of Social Security and Medicare and promote the long-term solvency of these critical programs:

  • Rescinds funding from the Inflation Reduction Act for 87,000 new IRS agents and redirects those funds to the Medicare and Social Security Administration Trust Funds to help shore up the solvency of each program.
  • Creates a Budget Point of Order, and requires a two-thirds vote, against any legislation that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) determines would reduce or cut existing Medicare and Social Security benefits.
  • Amends CBO scoring laws such that savings to Medicare cannot be used to offset or pay-for spending outside of Medicare.
  • NOTE: This tactic was used by Democrats for the “infrastructure bill” as well as the Inflation Reduction Act where Medicare savings were used as ‘pay-fors’ for green new deal projects and other wasteful spending.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Colleagues in Letter to FTC Blasting Senate Democrats’ Political Meddling in Oil and Gas Mergers

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, along with 34 of their Senate Republican colleagues, in calling on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to conduct a fair and unbiased review of recently announced oil and gas mergers after Senate Democrats requested the FTC investigate these major energy acquisitions by citing misleading and false allegations. Previously, Senate Democrats also urged the FTC to abuse its authority by arguing that such investigations must be used to stop these companies from discrediting “climate science,” “subverting our democratic processes,” and “frustrate self-governing” through more oil and gas production.

Sens. Rick Scott & Marco Rubio, Reps. Byron Donalds & Greg Steube Urge FEMA to Stop NFIP Cost Increases in Lee County

Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, joined by Congressmen Byron Donalds and Greg Steube, sent a letter today to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell urging her to reverse the agency’s recent decision to eliminate discounts for some National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy holders in Lee County, Florida. Previously, FEMA offered NFIP policyholders in Lee County a community premium discount of 25 percent, which will be eliminated for some policyholders if FEMA moves forward with its recent decision.

Senator Scott has been fighting for years to reform the broken NFIP and lower costs for Florida families. Senator Scott recently introduced the Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which would require FEMA to offer Floridians an option to pay their flood insurance premiums monthly, rather than in a larger lump sum once a year. In August 2023, Senator Scott wrote a letter to David Maurstad, Senior Executive of the NFIP, demanding transparency and accountability as FEMA’s Risk Rating 2.0 has unfairly increased flood insurance rates for millions of Floridians, making the coverage nearly unaffordable for working families who need it. Earlier this Congress, Senator Scott also reintroduced three bills, the Removing Barriers to Private Flood Insurance Act, the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act, and the Flood Insurance Transparency Act to reform the NFIP which would help lower the cost of flood insurance, build a more robust private market, and ensure the property insurance market better serves Florida families. Senator Scott’s NFIP package has been endorsed by the Federal Association for Insurance Reform (FAIR).

Following Biden Admin Approval of Additional Iran Sanctions Waivers, Sen. Rick Scott Demands Transparency

In response to the Biden administration’s recent decision to approve yet another Iran sanctions waiver, potentially worth billions of dollars, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tim Scott and their colleagues in an effort to hold the Biden administration accountable and demand transparency for the American people on U.S. enabled payments to Iran, the leading state sponsor of terrorism. In a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the senators raised concerns that the latest waiver makes sanctioned Iranian funds, which could be used to fund terrorism, more accessible to the Iranian regime and disregards congressional intent calling for severe restrictions on payments to Iran.

Sen. Rick Scott Demands President Biden Reimpose Sanctions Against the Maduro Regime

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement demanding immediate action from President Biden to reimpose sanctions on Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. In October 2023, the Biden administration was played by Nicolás Maduro and his thugs and made a bad deal to lift sanctions, believing Maduro’s lie that his regime would allow free and fair elections in Venezuela. Since then, Maduro and his thugs have unjustly arrested several opposition leaders and blocked María Corina Machado from being on this year’s election ballot.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden and his administration got played by Dictator Nicolás Maduro and his thugs. It is absolutely pathetic that the president of the United States ran into the arms of a ruthless, murdering dictator and did exactly what they wanted. At the end of the day, Maduro failed to keep his promise to honor the legitimate candidacy of María Corina Machado and hold a free and fair election this year in Venezuela. Now Biden must honor his word and reimpose sanctions on the murderous Maduro regime. Maduro works with Iran, Russia, Middle East extremist terror groups, Communist China and Cuba. All evil regimes that hate America. He, just like his comrades in those countries, is a genocidal tyrant and a liar and yet Biden decided to trust him. Lifting U.S. sanctions and allowing money to flow into Venezuela because you’re counting on the word of a mad dictator is one of the most ridiculous things I could have imagined from this president. President Biden failed the American people and the Venezuelan people. It’s time for him and his administration to acknowledge their failure and immediately reimpose sanctions on Nicolás Maduro. Joe Biden has been a disaster for the fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela, but we will continue working alongside the freedom-loving Venezuelan people to bring democracy back to their country.”

Ahead of SSA Administrator Visit to Florida, Sen. Rick Scott Continues to Demand Answers on Biden’s Failure to Improve Solvency, Protect Future Benefits

In case you missed it, Senator Scott shared the following video ahead of Social Security Administrator Martin O’Malley’s visit to Florida today. During a recent hearing in the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, Senator Scott pushed Administrator O’Malley on the Biden administration’s failure to address looming insolvency issues within the Social Security Trust Fund that threaten future benefits. In his recently proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, President Biden failed to address these issues while pushing more massive spending that would increase the national debt by $6.4 trillion over the next four years, putting further stress on the federal government’s ability to keep its promises to the American people and protect the benefits of Social Security for future generations. Last year, Senator Scott introduced the Protect Our Seniors Act to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Sen. Rick Scott Slams Biden’s Lies About Bad Jobs Report

Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ March jobs report that showed part-time employment is up 691,000 jobs in March of 2024, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement along with a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Since President Biden took office, his so-called “Bidenomics” agenda has bankrupted American families and forced some into taking on multiple jobs to afford basic necessities like gas, rent and groceries.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While Democrats and their partners in the media are celebrating today’s jobs report and pushing lies about our economy, their fake narrative ignores the truth. This jobs report shows that full-time jobs are down AGAIN – dropping 6,000 month over month – while part-time jobs rose by nearly 700,000. That means that more Americans are working multiple jobs to make ends meet and deal with Biden’s skyrocketing inflation. This month’s jobs report also showed that unemployment among black Americans is up again, rising a full percentage point to 6.4% – the highest it’s been in two years. President Biden has led America into economic disaster and families in Florida and all across America are paying the price for his failures. These figures make President Biden’s recent decision to cut Medicare benefits for the second year in a row even more disgusting. Everywhere you look, American families are suffering more under Biden’s failed leadership and no amount of lies in the press or in White House press releases will change that sad reality for hardworking families. It has never been more clear that we need new leadership in the White House that puts American workers first and brings fiscal sanity back to Washington.”

Dear Fellow Floridian,

I took my third trip to visit Israel as your U.S. senator and sixth since I was elected as your governor in 2011. I met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and delivered an important message: my commitment to supporting Israel and protecting the valuable relationship Florida and America have with the Jewish State will never falter. We will see this through until Hamas is destroyed and all hostages, which includes Americans, that have now spent over 170 days in Hamas captivity are home.

Israel changed on October 7, 2023, when Iran-backed Hamas terrorists attacked and killed thousands of innocent people – but I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu and members of his administration that I stand firmly with them in making sure this day will not mark the end of the Jewish State. I reiterated this commitment when I spoke to family members of individuals taken hostage and IDF Soldiers who have seen and fought terrorism firsthand. They’re scarred by the unimaginable horrors of Iran-backed Hamas terrorists beheading babies, raping young women, murdering their loved ones and capturing their children to be held hostage.

I saw the devastation Israel faces with my own eyes in Kibbutz Kfar Aza. The joyous community I visited years ago is now destroyed and reeling from the aftermath of October 7, with so many of its residents missing or dead. I also visited the site of the massacre at the Supernova Music Festival. It was difficult to walk through that place and see the hundreds of memorials to innocent young people that were ambushed and brutally murdered by Hamas. My visit to Israel has only reinforced the undeniable fact that the United States and Israel have a common security interest in destroying Hamas and getting hostages back home TODAY. President Biden and Democrats in Washington have abandoned Israel at the United Nations and on the world stage. I urge them to reverse course and I will not be silent until I see Biden’s administration stand strongly with our ally.

As we mark Holy Week, I visited the Western Wall and I left a prayer for every hostage taken on October 7 to be freed today and returned home. As you and your family gather for Easter, I ask that you join me in also praying for every hostage and their loved ones. War is terrible, but Israel cannot rest until Hamas is destroyed and the hostages, including Americans, are home. I know that God is with the Israeli people and will deliver victory to his people and the Jewish State.

Sen. Rick Scott Issues Statement Ahead of VP Harris Visit to Parkland

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement ahead of the Vice President’s visit to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Senator Rick Scott said, “After the horrific shooting that took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day in 2018, I immediately brought together mental health, education and law enforcement experts to get valuable feedback on how to prevent future violence in our schools. I also worked closely with the families that lost their children and loved ones that day to make sure their voices were heard. On February 23, I proposed landmark legislation to the Florida Legislature, which I then signed into law as Governor of Florida on March 9th, less than one month after the shooting. The work of the Parkland parents was instrumental in drafting and passing this bill—work done as they grieved the unimaginable loss of their children. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act improved school safety in Florida and has helped law enforcement make appropriate interventions with people who pose a threat of violence to themselves or others while robustly protecting due process rights that stop unlawful infringement on the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Floridians. This stands in stark contrast to the Biden-Harris administration’s push for nationwide implementation of radical policies, like California’s red flag law, which abandons due process to more quickly and easily take constitutional rights away from law-abiding Americans. That is unacceptable.

“While I wish that the tragedy never happened, I am proud of the quick, bipartisan work we did to implement strong school safety policy and better protect our kids at school. There is no place for partisan politics here, which is why I have been so frustrated by Democrat Leadership in the Senate blocking consideration and passage of the bipartisan EAGLES Act, to expand the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center with a greater focus on school violence prevention, as well as my School Guardian Act which would replicate Florida’s policy and place a trained law enforcement officer in every U.S. school. I will continue to work with Parkland families and those who wish to build on Florida’s good work to improve school safety across the nation. I urge the Vice President to join me in calling for the immediate passage of the EAGLES Act and School Guardian Act.”

Sen. Rick Scott Slams Blinken’s Threats to Israel over Rafah Operation

Senator Rick Scott issued the following statement slamming Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s threat to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s plans to enter Rafah as it fights to eliminate Iran-backed Hamas terrorists and rescue hostages. On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists killed more than 1,200 people in Israel and have held hundreds hostage for the 169 days since the attack, including Americans.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Biden administration’s continued threats to Israel as it fights against terrorism that wishes to end its existence are shameful. It’s illegitimate coercion against our ally and the only democracy in the Middle East to appease radical Left Hamas sympathizers. On October 7, Iran-backed Hamas terrorists stormed into Israel and slaughtered innocent families—beheading babies, raping women and children and burning families alive. Hamas killed more than 1,200 people that day and continues to hold hundreds hostage, including Americans. Have Biden and Blinken forgotten that? If Israel believes entering Rafah is necessary to eliminate Hamas, rescue hostages and end this war, the United States must stand 100% behind that mission.”

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Resolution Affirming Biden’s Authority to Immediately Secure the Border

Senator Rick Scott led Senators Ted Cruz, Shelley Moore Capito, John Hoeven, Marco Rubio, Kevin Cramer, Josh Hawley, Ted Budd, Marsha Blackburn, Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, Roger Marshall, Ron Johnson, Mike Braun and Cindy Hyde-Smith in announcing an introduction of a resolution in the U.S. Senate denouncing the Biden administration’s open border policies which have allowed more than 9 million individuals to illegally cross the U.S. southern border since President Joe Biden took office. This resolution is being led in the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) and passed with bipartisan support.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Joe Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas have created the worst border security crisis in our nation’s history. The Biden administration’s open border policies have incentivized the unlawful crossing of the U.S. southern border by more than 9 million illegal aliens, including criminal aliens and suspected terrorists, from all around the world. The laws of the United States are the same today as they were when President Trump successfully secured our southern border. Everyone knows that President Biden used executive power to open the border and has the authority to close and secure the border but is purposefully failing to do so. I am proud to lead my colleagues in this resolution which affirms the authority of President Biden and his administration to secure the border and immediately end this crisis.”

Sen. Rick Scott & Sen. Mike Lee Introduce Bill to Close the Gate on CBP One App Use

In response to the ongoing invasion at the southern border and the Biden administration’s decision to validate the CBP One Mobile App as an acceptable form of identification for air travel into and across the United States, Senator Rick Scott and Senator Mike Lee introduced the Verifying that all Aliens have Legitimate Identification Documents (VALID) Act. This legislation directly targets the loopholes exploited by illegal immigrants to travel within the U.S. without proper identification.

Since the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) decided to accept the CBP One Mobile App as a form of identification for air travel into and throughout the United States, there have been over 200,000 migrants entering the U.S. using the app as their sole form of identification, a loophole the VALID Act would permanently close.

The VALID Act is cosponsored by Roger Marshall (R-KS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), and John Thune (R-SD).

Senator Rick Scott said, “Biden’s TSA has made the choice to allow illegal aliens with no verified identification to use the CBP One Mobile App before flying on commercial airlines into U.S. airports. This is unacceptable and dangerous. The Biden administration has intentionally made our country more dangerous with policies that put Americans at great risk and weaken U.S. national security. I am proud to cosponsor this legislation to keep Americans safe.”

Senate Passes Sens. Rick Scott & Gary Peters Bipartisan Bill to Strengthen Federal Building Security

Bipartisan legislation authored by Senator Rick Scott and Senator Gary Peters, members of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, to improve security for federal employees and members of the public who visit federal buildings has passed the Senate. Federal facilities face a wide range of threats, including active shooters, cyber-attacks, hostile surveillance, improvised explosive devices, and more. This legislation requires federal agencies to respond to the Federal Protective Service (FPS) recommendations on security measures issued within 90 days. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This good legislation will make sure that when the Federal Protective Service makes safety recommendations for federal offices and buildings, they are quickly reviewed and taken into consideration. Federal agencies must do everything necessary to serve the American people while keeping public servants safe. I applaud the Senate for the passage of this important legislation and urge its immediate passage in the House of Representatives.”

Sens. Rick Scott and Tom Carper Lead Introduction of FEHB Protection Act

Senator Rick Scott and Senator Tom Carper announced the bipartisan FEHB Protection Act to stop fraud within the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program, the largest employer-sponsored health insurance program in the country which covers eight million federal employees, retirees and family members. The FEHB Protection Act will codify Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Office of Inspector General (OIG) recommendations to require the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to verify eligibility before adding family members, additionally, the bill requires an audit and removal of those ineligible for the program to ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely and program benefits are protected for truly eligible individuals. This legislation follows a study conducted by the GAO at Senator Scott’s request, which revealed that OPM’s mismanagement of the FEHB program allowed ineligible individuals to obtain employer-sponsored health coverage at the hefty price tag of approximately $1 billion in taxpayer dollars every year.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Under years of mismanagement by OPM, the FEHB program has knowingly allowed $1 billion of taxpayer money every year to be wasted with no plan or mechanism to stop it. That is unacceptable and must be fixed. There must be zero tolerance for individuals intentionally exploiting and defrauding the federal government. I’m proud to lead the effort to stop fraud and waste in the FEHB program and be joined Senator Carper on this commonsense and bipartisan legislation.”

Sen. Rick Scott’s Bipartisan END FENTANYL Act Signed Into Law

On March 18th, Senator Rick Scott’s bipartisan legislation, the Eradicating Narcotic Drugs and Formulating Effective New Tools to Address National Yearly Losses of Life (END FENTANYL) Act, was signed into law by President Joe Biden. The END FENTANYL Act will require the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to update its policies at least once every three years to ensure operational field manuals, including their drug interdiction guidance, are up to date. This legislation builds off the 2019 GAO report, “Land Ports of Entry: CBP Should Update Policies and Enhance Analysis of Inspections,” that found drug interdiction guidance has not been updated in 20 years. The END FENTANYL Act was cosponsored by Senators Jacky Rosen, Mike Braun, Maggie Hassan and Mark Kelly. Representatives Michael Guest and David Trone led the charge in the House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott said, “For nearly two years, I have been fighting to make my bipartisan END FENTANYL Act law. I am proud that Congress finally passed, and the president signed into law, this important legislation to better combat America’s lethal opioid epidemic. President Biden must do more to secure the border and stop the deadly fentanyl that continues to flow illegally into the U.S. over the southern border and kills tens of thousands of our citizens. I look forward to seeing the Biden administration immediately implement this law and give America’s brave CBP agents the tools needed to keep these dangerous drugs out of our communities. While nothing can heal the crushing heartbreak felt by the hundreds of thousands of families torn apart by fentanyl and who have lost loved ones, the END FENTANYL Act will make a difference in our fight to end the suffering. I am grateful for the strong support of Senators Jacky Rosen, Mike Braun, Maggie Hassan and Mark Kelly, and Representatives Michael Guest and David Trone in getting this done.”

The END FENTANYL Act:

  • Requires the Commissioner of CBP to review and update the Office of Field Operations’ policies and handbooks, as necessary and at least once every three years in order to respond to illegal activity, such as the trafficking of drugs and humans, along the border.
  • Requires the Commissioner of CBP to submit a report to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate and the Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives that summarizes the policy and manual changes every three years.

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Resolution Affirming Biden’s Authority to Immediately Secure the Border

On March 25th, Senator Rick Scott led Senators Ted Cruz, Shelley Moore Capito, John Hoeven, Marco Rubio, Kevin Cramer, Josh Hawley, Ted Budd, Marsha Blackburn, Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, Roger Marshall, Ron Johnson, Mike Braun and Cindy Hyde-Smith in announcing an introduction of a resolution in the U.S.

Sen. Rick Scott on Fox Business: VP Harris Must Preside Over Mayorkas Impeachment Trial

In case you missed it, Senator Rick Scott appeared on Fox Business to call for an end to the Biden administration’s border crisis and discuss his letter to Vice President Kamala Harris urging her to fulfill her constitutional duty to serve as the presiding officer of Secretary Mayorkas’ trial. As the President of the Senate, Vice President Harris is the appropriate constitutional presiding officer to oversee the impeachment trial of Secretary Mayorkas, and her appointment as President Biden’s “border czar” only makes her role in the Mayorkas impeachment trial more critical. Sens. Rick Scott & Mike Lee Lead Call for Senate Trial on Mayorkas’ Impeachment

On February 20th, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Mike Lee to lead their colleagues in sending a letter to Leader Mitch McConnell, noting the Senate’s constitutional responsibility to conduct a thorough trial following the House’s impeachment articles against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Joining Senators Scott and Lee were Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Ron Johnson (R-WI), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Mike Braun (R-IN), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

Sen. Rick Scott Calls “Border Czar” VP Harris to Fulfill Constitutional Duty & Preside Over Mayorkas Impeachment

On February 20th, Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris urging her to fulfill her constitutional duty to serve as the presiding officer of Secretary Mayorkas’s trial following the House of Representatives impeaching him last week. As the President of the Senate, Vice President Harris is the appropriate constitutional presiding officer to oversee the impeachment trial of Secretary Mayorkas, and her appointment as President Biden’s “border czar” only makes her role in the Mayorkas impeachment trial more critical.

Sens. Rick Scott & Ted Cruz Introduce Legislation to Prevent DHS from Halting Lawful Commerce to Instead Process Illegal Aliens

On February 9th, Senators Rick Scott and Ted Cruz led their colleagues in introducing the Keeping International Land Ports of Entry Open Act to prohibit Joe Biden from closing commercial ports of entry and diverting Customs and Border Protection staff from facilitating lawful commerce to processing illegal aliens. Senators Scott and Cruz were joined by Sens. Pete Ricketts, Mike Lee and Marsha Blackburn in introducing the bill.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Democrats do not care about border security, and everything that the Biden administration does proves that fact to the American people. We must do everything possible to force Joe Biden to secure the border and limit his ability to make stupid decisions that hurt U.S. trade. This good bill does just that, and I urge the Senate to pass it immediately.”

Read the full text of the bill HERE.

BACKGROUND: The Biden administration closed four border ports of entry in December, including 2 key railroad bridges in El Paso and Eagle Pass, Texas. These closures gave the appearance that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) was assisting Border Patrol. However, the CBP’s monthly update admitted that the agents were used to “quickly process individuals encountered.” Shutting down lawful commerce to welcome illegal aliens is unacceptable.

This decision shut down approximately $250 million in commerce per day. The agricultural sector suffered in particular from rippling effects across the network since Mexico is a large market for grain exports, with $28.5 billion in sales in 2022.

The Keeping International Land Ports of Entry Open Act would prevent DHS from diverting staff away from ports of entry unless there is a delineated exception. The exceptions include deploying CBP agents to physically secure the border, but they do not allow staff diversions for mere administrative work like welcoming in illegal aliens.

The bill will prohibit the transfer of Department of Homeland Security staff from an international land port of entry along the southwest border unless such transfer would not impact the processing of trade through such port of entry, such staff would be immediately replaced, or such staff are needed to actively engage in physical detentions to secure such border. The exceptions do not allow a staff diversion to process aliens illegally entering the country.

The bill includes a built-in accountability mechanism and requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to notify the House, Senate, and the American people what exception applies if he seeks to relocate staff and close a port of entry.

Sen. Rick Scott: Abandoning Voters Doomed the So-Called “Border Security” Deal

Image

On February 6th, Senator Rick Scott led a press conference with Senate conservatives to voice their strong opposition to the recently released “border deal.” Joining Senator Scott were Senators Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO). Following the press conference, Senator Scott released the following statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “It was a TOTAL FAILURE of Mitch McConnell to abandon the voters by keeping nearly every member of the Senate GOP Conference in the dark to craft an immigration bill falsely labeled as a border security bill. I want a secure border, and so do people in my state of Florida. That’s not what this bill does. Not only does this bill not force President Biden to secure the border, it codifies catch-and-release letting millions of illegal aliens into the country, funds sanctuary cities, gives illegal aliens U.S. jobs and spends your tax dollars so they can have free attorneys. If that’s not bad enough, it also spends $10 BILLION to fund the salaries of Ukraine’s government employees and lets BILLIONS go to Gaza, which is still dominated by the Hamas terrorists that killed 1,200 Israelis, more than 30 Americans, and are still holding Americans hostage. That won’t fly. We can’t forget: BIDEN is leading a lawless administration – we have to force his hand to actually secure the border and protect U.S. national security, not give money to terrorists. Anything short of that is an unacceptable failure.”

Sen. Rick Scott joins Sen. Rand Paul in Letter to Senate Leadership on Proposed Border Bill

On February 1st, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Rand Paul and their Republican colleagues on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) in sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). The letter urges that any proposed bill affecting border security should undergo careful consideration by the committees of jurisdiction, which includes HSGAC. The senators stressed the need for all members to be afforded the opportunity to thoroughly review and consider any proposed changes that have significant consequences on our nation’s security, immigration system and taxpayers.

Sen. Rick Scott & Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Applaud Committee Passage of CHECKPOINT Act

On February 1st, Senators Rick Scott and Kyrsten Sinema applauded the passage of their Continuing High-Quality Evaluations of Concerning and Known Persons of Interest through National Training Updates (CHECKPOINT) Act out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC). This bipartisan bill will require regular updates to drug seizure data collection categories, reporting requirements, and responsibilities for checkpoints and secondary inspection sites operated by the U.S. Border Patrol. This legislation makes recommended changes to the procedures following reports from the Government Accountability Office and will increase the accountability of the Checkpoint Program Management Office leadership. It now heads to the Senate floor for consideration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “It’s heart-wrenching and terrifying that fentanyl continues to flow across our southern border and into U.S. communities where it takes more lives every single day. We cannot allow this drug to continue endangering American families. This commonsense legislation will make several updates to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection training and procedures of the Checkpoint Program Management Office to ensure we are doing everything possible to seize these drugs from dangerous criminals before they harm our communities. I’m glad to have bipartisan support for the Continuing High-quality Evaluations of Concerning and Known Persons of Interest through National Training Updates (CHECKPOINT) Act, and I’m thankful it passed out of committee this week. I won’t stop fighting for this bill’s full passage so that we may take another step toward ending the deadly fentanyl smuggling happening at our border.”

The Continuing High-Quality Evaluations of Concerning and Known Persons of Interest through National Training Updates (CHECKPOINT) Act will:

  • Codify the Checkpoint Program Management Office (CPMO) and require an accountable Assistant Chief of Border Patrol for the office to clarify the roles, responsibilities, and actions necessary to carry out their important mission;
  • Require the CPMO to regularly coordinate with Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Border Patrol Offices that support checkpoint operations;
  • Require the Chief and Assistant Chief to regularly update categories for seizure collection data to most effectively capture this information;
  • Require a data collection plan to develop goals and milestones for improving checkpoint data collection, improve the reliability and accuracy of data collected, and address issues related to data collection identified in GAO-22-104568;
  • Require data on the use of the Border Enforcement Secondary Tool, license plate reader technology, and any additional tools developed to document information about secondary inspections and checkpoints; and
  • Require an annual report to HSGAC and House Homeland on the data required to be collected, steps taken to implement this bill, and actions taken to ensure proper oversight of the CPMO.

Dear Fellow Floridian,

Florida families are feeling the impact of this administration’s lawless border policies every single day, as deadly fentanyl, criminals and terrorists pour across Biden’s open borders.

For months now, Senate Leadership kept telling us they were working on a bill to secure the border, but what we got was an immigration bill with no accountability to force Biden to actually secure the border. I have been leading my fellow Senate conservatives in the fight against codifying Biden’s open border policies, and we successfully destroyed their efforts.

But Washington wasn’t done yet; right after we stopped their attempt to pass the most sweeping immigration bill in decades, with zero input from the public, Senate Leadership unveiled their new plan to pass a massive, unpaid-for, $95 BILLION foreign aid bill. It includes $60 BILLION for Ukraine, including $10 BILLION to fund the salaries of Ukraine’s government employees and politicians. It lets BILLIONS go to Gaza, which is still dominated by the Hamas terrorists that killed 1,200 Israelis and more than 30 Americans and are still holding Americans hostage.

I, along with most of the Republicans in the Senate and the House, oppose this bill. We need to secure America’s border before we secure Ukraine’s border.

Biden is leading a lawless administration – we have to force his hand to actually secure the border and protect U.S. national security, not give money to terrorists or fund another country’s government before we take care of families here. It’s why I was frustrated by Senate Leadership’s choice to press on with the foreign aid portion of this package that will still send money to fund Ukraine’s government and help Hamas-dominated Gaza while doing nothing to secure the border.

The deal was always Ukraine aid for real border security. The invasion of Ukraine is not more important than the invasion of America. One thing is for sure: Floridians deserve better, and I plan to do everything in my power to keep fighting and secure REAL border security that holds Biden accountable once and for all.

Sincerely,

Sen. Rick Scott to Chair Powell: The American People Deserve Accountability for Fed Missing Targets & Fueling Inflation

Following last week’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Chair of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell urging accountability regarding his massive failure to meet his target of reducing the Fed’s balance sheet and severely misallocated capital. Senator Scott has been adamant about holding the Fed accountable to their goals of reducing the balance sheet since his election to the Senate. During Powell’s time as chair, he has overseen a wildly unaccountable Fed, which has grossly mismanaged U.S. monetary policy and grown its balance sheet to an unsustainable $7.7 TRILLION, hurting millions of hardworking American families with skyrocketing interest rates and inflation and losing $1.3 TRILLION of taxpayer money just last year.

Senator Rick Scott led Senator Marco Rubio and members of the Florida Delegation in the House of Representatives in sending a bipartisan, bicameral letter to President Joe Biden in support of Governor Ron DeSantis’ request for a Major Disaster Declaration in Florida’s panhandle due to the recent catastrophic storms that impacted the northern portion of the state. Sens. Rick Scott & Gary Peters’ Bipartisan Bill to Strengthen Federal Building Security Passes Committee

Bipartisan legislation authored by Senators Rick Scott and Gary Peters (D-MI) to improve security for federal employees and members of the public who use federal buildings has advanced in the Senate. Every day, federal facilities face a wide range of threats, including active shooters, cyber-attacks, hostile surveillance, improvised explosive devices, and more. This legislation requires federal agencies to respond to the Federal Protective Service (FPS) recommendations on security measures issued within 90 days. The bill was approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and now moves to the Senate floor for consideration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This good legislation will make sure that when the Federal Protective Service makes safety recommendations for federal offices and buildings, they are quickly reviewed and taken into consideration. Federal agencies must do everything necessary to serve the American people while keeping public servants safe. I applaud the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for the passage of this important legislation and urge its immediate passage on the Senate floor.”

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Congressional Letter Calling Out Biden Admin for Pause on Florida LNG Export Permits

Senator Rick Scott led Senator Marco Rubio and members of the Florida Delegation in the House of Representatives in sending a bicameral letter to President Joe Biden regarding deep concerns about the Biden administration’s pause in approving new export permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects, particularly as it pertains to the state of Florida. The Biden administration’s pause on domestically produced LNG permits will force consumers to depend on other countries with less stringent environmental regulations, such as Russia, China, Venezuela and Iran — sending money that could support American businesses to countries that are our adversaries. Joining Senators Scott and Rubio are Representatives John Rutherford, Byron Donalds, Anna Paulina Luna, Scott Franklin, Gus Bilirakis, Aaron Bean, Kat Cammack, Maria Elvira Salazar, Daniel Webster, Bill Posey, Cory Mills, Neal Dunn and Mario Diaz-Balart.

On February 2nd, Senator Rick Scott hosted a roundtable at the Collier Senior Center in Naples with program administrators, community leaders and senior citizens to discuss the impacts of Biden’s inflation crisis, the cost of healthcare and the skyrocketing cost of living. Following the roundtable, Senator Scott released the following statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Today, I got to hear from Florida Seniors about what more I can do in Washington to help them. I’ve been in Washington for five years and every day I have to fight to remind the people up there that they work for you. Democrats have waged a war on seniors by causing skyrocketing inflation which hurts those on fixed income, who rely on programs like Social Security, the most. I am fighting to pass my Protect Our Seniors Act to safeguard Social Security and Medicare benefits from cuts and political games in Washington. I’m also working to make sure that Florida seniors don’t have to face uncertainty because of skyrocketing inflation and federal incompetence like what we’ve seen at the Social Security Administration with overpayments and demands of immediate financially crippling clawbacks from innocent seniors. I promised Floridians I would fight and I will never go back on my word.

Dear Fellow Floridian,

I hear from Floridians every day about how concerned they are that President Biden has created a completely open border. I’ve been clear that we need to totally secure the border to stop illegal immigration and secure the border or SHUT IT DOWN. Unfortunately, the “border deal” that is being negotiated in the Senate doesn’t get the job done. As of Friday, we haven’t even seen the text of this “deal” yet, but what’s being reported is that it codifies Biden’s open border failures and would make it tougher for the next Republican president to do what it takes to secure the border. We can’t let that happen.

In Florida, we want a secure border and we want the border to get fixed today because we all see how dangerous it is. More than 8 million people have illegally entered the United States since President Biden took office. Among them are hundreds of terrorists. It’s a catastrophic failure that is a real and present danger to Florida families, businesses and our national security.

I’m fighting to make sure we hold Biden accountable. He could secure the border TODAY if he wanted, but he won’t. Floridians deserve better and that’s what I’m fighting to deliver.

Sen. Rick Scott Reiterates Commitment to Law Enforcement at Annual Sheriffs Conference

Image

Senator Rick Scott attended the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Winter Conference to give remarks and reinforce his support and commitment to Florida’s law enforcement officers. Following his remarks, Senator Scott released the following statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I’m always proud to join our state’s brave law enforcement officers and thank them for their incredible work to keep our families safe. Every day, our sheriffs and their deputies are placed in dangerous situations—and we owe them our gratitude for risking their lives to protect our neighborhoods and communities throughout the Sunshine State. Up in Washington as Florida’s U.S. Senator, I’m committed to stopping the flow of deadly drugs and illegal immigration at our border, which means forcing the Biden administration to secure the border and stand with our law enforcement officers who are fighting to keep families safe. I will always stand with Florida’s law enforcement and fight in Congress to make sure they have everything they need to protect our communities. Under the Trump administration, we had a real partner in the White House who cared about our safety, and our country desperately needs that commitment to law enforcement again.”

Sen. Rick Scott Demands Powell Pay Down the Fed’s Balance Sheet

Ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell’s press conference following this week’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting, Senator Rick Scott released a statement slamming Powell’s failure to meet the Fed’s target of reducing its massive balance sheet. If the Fed had kept its promise and met its target, the balance sheet would be $400 BILLION lower today. Senator Scott has previously made similar requests, but the Fed has failed to be accountable to the American people and address this serious problem.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Thanks to Jay Powell’s failed leadership, the Fed has overseen a massive misallocation of capital and grown its balance sheet to an unsustainable $7.68 trillion. Today, Powell must uphold his promise to the American people that he will continue to pay down the balance sheet and do everything possible to combat President Biden’s inflation crisis that continues to hurt American families with high prices that have skyrocketed 17% since he took office. Powell’s failure to meet his own goals of balance sheet reduction and implement meaningful accountability measures at the Fed is purposeful and unacceptable. Today, I am again demanding that the Fed honor its mission, put American taxpayers first and pay down the balance sheet before even more taxpayer money is lost.”

Sens. Rick Scott, Mike Braun & Colleagues Call on DEA to Raise Awareness of Senior Overdoses

Senators Rick Scott, Mike Braun, Marco Rubio, Pete Ricketts and J.D. Vance, all members of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, sent a letter to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Anne Milgram raising awareness of senior overdoses and urging that the agency improve its prevention efforts for older Americans. This follows a hearing held by the committee in December on substance use trends among older Americans and a report released by Ranking Member Braun. The impact of fentanyl on older age groups often receives less attention in prevention messaging despite the reality that distinct factors make older Americans vulnerable to synthetics.

Sens. Rick Scott, Mark Kelly Lead Bipartisan, Bicameral Letter Calling on President Biden to Prioritize U.S. Maritime Defense

Senators Rick Scott and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) joined Representative Mike Waltz and 16 bipartisan, bicameral lawmakers in sending a letter to President Biden urging him to strengthen the United States’ maritime power at a moment when Communist China is extending its influence in the South China Sea and the Houthis are attacking shipping in the Red Sea.

Sens. Rick Scott, Marco Rubio & Colleagues: The Time to Act on Venezuela is NOW

Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Bill Cassidy sent a letter to President Biden demanding sanctions be immediately imposed against the Maduro regime as tenets of the Barbados agreement are not being followed. The Maduro narco-regime’s court formally upheld an earlier decision that disqualified the leading opposition candidate, María Corina Machado, from participating in the upcoming presidential elections. Recently, members of Machado’s team were also arbitrarily arrested by the Maduro regime and her headquarters were vandalized. Since taking office, the Biden administration has granted a wave of concessions to the narco-regime: from the release of Maduro’s nephews, lifting sectoral sanctions, and granting clemency to Maduro’s crony, Alex Saab.

Sens. Rick Scott, Marco Rubio & Colleagues to Biden: Strengthen Enforcement of Iran Sanctions

Following Hamas’ brutal assault against Israel on October 7th, and more than 140 attacks against U.S. troops, Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) led a group of bipartisan colleagues in sending a letter to President Joe Biden calling on him to enforce current law and act against Iran’s illicit oil trade through sanctions. The senators also encouraged support for proposed legislation pending in the U.S. Senate.

Sen. Rick Scott & Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Applaud Committee Passage of CHECKPOINT Act

Senators Rick Scott and Kyrsten Sinema applauded the passage of their Continuing High-Quality Evaluations of Concerning and Known Persons of Interest through National Training Updates (CHECKPOINT) Act out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC).

Sen. Rick Scott: America Will Never Reward Terror by Recognizing a Palestinian State

Senator Rick Scott released a statement slamming the Biden administration for its disgusting policy shift and consideration of supporting a Palestinian state following Hamas’ brutal October 7th assault against Israel. The atrocities committed by Iran-backed Palestinian terrorists during their October 7th attack, and their ongoing war in Israel, have killed more than 1,200 innocent people, and at least 33 Americans. Hundreds more, including Americans, have been taken hostage. This attack has also sparked more than 140 attacks against U.S. troops within the region.

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Rand Paul and their Republican colleagues on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) in sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Ted Cruz to introduce a disapproval resolution under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) today in an effort to push back against the U.S. Department of Energy’s final rule on gas furnace efficiency standards. The Biden administration’s rule will go into effect on February 16, 2024, forcing manufacturers to sell only furnaces that convert at least 95% of fuel into heat. The rule will effectively ban all non-condensing furnace models, coercing a majority of American households to adopt electric heat pumps or pay thousands of dollars to renovate their homes to meet the requirements of new residential gas furnaces.

Dear Fellow Floridian,

Since Joe Biden became president, we’ve seen the situation at our southern border devolve into an out-of-control crisis. I’ve visited the southern border several times, and the brave men and women protecting our borders are doing the best they can, but it’s impossible to secure the border when DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is carrying out Biden’s lawless border policies that deprive border patrol of resources and prohibit them from doing their jobs.

For months, Senate Leadership has told us they’re negotiating a “border deal” to finally secure our southern border and keep our communities safe. From what I have seen so far, this so-called ‘border deal’ just codifies into law Biden’s open-border agenda and makes it near impossible for the next president to secure the border and stop illegal immigration. I won’t let that happen. Let’s remember that President Trump secured our border with the SAME laws that Biden has now. We don’t need new laws. We need a new administration.

We are dealing with a lawless administration and a lawless president. Joe Biden is so committed to having an open border that he took Texas to the Supreme Court so that his administration could cut border fencing down. That is what we are dealing with here. Leader McConnell has said he won’t include any metrics or accountability that force a reduction in illegal crossings. That’s unacceptable, and it’s why I led Senators Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, Ted Cruz, Mike Braun, Eric Schmitt and Roger Marshall in a press conference this week to demand accountability. If we don’t have that, any supposed border bill is a non-starter.

If Biden and Democrats get policies that allow first-come, first-serve entry into the United States to the first 5,000 people every day before any real border security laws kick in, that is a TOTAL FAILURE. That is 1.8 million illegal immigrants allowed in every year. If just 1% of those are bad people—like murderers, terrorists, human traffickers, or drug smugglers—that means we are letting 50 people in every day who want to hurt Americans.

I won’t accept that. We need to see this bill, have real amendment votes, and actually SECURE THE BORDER. If Biden and the Democrats refuse to do that, we need to SHUT THE BORDER DOWN.

For a full update on what I am doing to make sure Biden’s open border policies don’t become law, click HERE.

Sincerely,

Sen. Rick Scott: Republicans Cannot Let Biden’s Open Border Policies Become Law

Senator Rick Scott hosted a press conference with Senators Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, Roger Marshall, Mike Braun, Eric Schmitt and Ted Cruz to outline their expectations for the ongoing negotiations on border security legislation. During the press conference, Senator Scott warned against allowing President Joe Biden’s lawless, open border polices becoming law which would make it much harder for the next president to actually secure the border and stop illegal immigration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “From what I have seen so far, this so-called ‘border deal’ just codifies into law Biden’s open-border-agenda and makes it near impossible for the next president to secure the border and stop illegal immigration. We are dealing with a lawless administration and a lawless president. Joe Biden is so committed to having an open border that he took Texas to the Supreme Court so that CBP could cut border fencing down. That is what we are dealing with here. Leader McConnell has said he won’t include any metrics or accountability that force a reduction in illegal crossings. That’s unacceptable. We need metrics AND ACCOUNTABILITY that force Biden to comply with the law or lose something he cares about—otherwise, it is a non-starter.

“The little I have heard about this deal is that it actually ALLOWS illegal immigration. If Biden and Democrats get policies that allow first-come, first-serve entry into the United States to the first 5,000 people every day before any real border security laws kick in, that is a TOTAL FAILURE. Sens. Rick Scott & Colleagues Send Bicameral Call for Biden Admin to Withdraw EV Mandate

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Representative Tim Walberg (R-Michigan) in leading a bicameral group of 120 colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Deputy Administrator Sophie Shulman calling for the withdrawal of the Biden administration’s proposed Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for passenger cars and light-duty trucks. The proposed standards, which would require automakers to more than double the average fleet-wide fuel economy in less than 10 years, do not comply with federal law and would effectively mandate the mass production of electric vehicles (EVs) and a phase-out of gas-powered cars and trucks. Americans should be able to keep the ability to choose the vehicle that best fits their needs and that they can afford rather than having the federal government dictate what they can and cannot drive.

Sen. Rick Scott Forces Fed to Change Bank Program, Stop Allowing Big Profits off Taxpayers

Senator Rick Scott released a statement following an announcement from the Federal Reserve that it is immediately making the changes he called for to its Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP) and will terminate the program on March 11, 2024. The BTFP was created to help American businesses and families, but unfortunately, has been taken advantage of by big financial institutions which have used it to play the Fed and make money off American taxpayers. Before the Fed announced this change, financial institutions could borrow from the BTFP at a lower-than-market rate, below 5 percent, and then invest those borrowed funds overnight in reserves at the Federal Reserve. These reserves are paying a higher interest rate of 5.40 percent, allowing financial institutions to profit from the difference. Due to this issue and the gross mismanagement of this program, last week Senator Scott requested the program’s terms and conditions be changed or else be terminated immediately.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This week, we are finally seeing some accountability from the Federal Reserve after I demanded important changes to its Bank Term Funding Program. It’s astonishing that the Federal Reserve failed to take steps sooner to fix this program, allowing big banks to game the system and profit off American taxpayers. Sadly, this gross mismanagement of the Fed is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Chair Powell. I am encouraged by the steps the Federal Reserve has finally taken to fix this program and look forward to further changes to its ill-advised programs and practices.”

Sen. Rick Scott Releases Economic Snapshot, Shares Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Since President Biden took office, his so-called “Bidenomics” agenda has hurt Americans and their wallets, bringing inflation up to over 17% and bankrupting families across the country. This morning, the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ December Personal Consumer Expenditures (PCE) report showed prices paid by consumers for goods and services increased 2.6% over the year and has been rising for the past 33 consecutive months.

Every day, Senator Scott is hearing from constituents about how much of a struggle it is for them to make ends meet. One year ago this month, Senator Scott began distributing a report to his colleagues in the Senate shedding light on America’s current concerning economic conditions. This report highlights the fiscal cliff the country is quickly approaching in the hopes of beginning a productive dialogue in Congress on how members can work together to fix the economic mess our country finds itself in today.

Dear Fellow Floridian:

Happy New Year! 2023 was a great year and I’m looking forward to another productive year fighting for Florida families. Just last month, we passed the National Defense Authorization Act with huge wins for Florida, which means big wins for our national security, including a 5.2% pay raise we secured for our men and women in uniform and $598 million for Florida bases. This included my American Security Drone Act to block Chinese drones from being used by federal agencies. I’ve been fighting for this for years and it’s finally becoming law.

While we got a lot done for Florida in 2023, it was still a year marked by undo pain for Sunshine State families due to President Biden’s raging inflation, reckless spending, and the crisis he’s caused at the southern border. Because President Biden and Congressional Democrats have failed to act, I’ve introduced and am working to pass major legislation that holds the Biden administration accountable, and helps make a difference in the lives of Floridians – ensuring they have the opportunity to get a great a great job, get a good education and raise their families in a safe community, including:

  • My END FENTANYL Act, which passed the Senate, requires Customs and Border Protection to review and update policies to better to respond to illegal activity, such as the trafficking of drugs and humans, along the border. My School Access to Naloxone Act ensures that our schools have the resources they need to help stop the deadly fentanyl crisis and provide local authorities the resources they need to fight this epidemic. Joe Biden’s open border policies have allowed deadly drugs, like fentanyl, to enter our country and threaten every community in America. Too many lives have been lost and it must be stopped.
  • My Debt Cancellation Accountability Act to require Congressional approval for the administration to grant any mass cancellation of federal student loan debts to stop Biden from shifting the burden of others onto hardworking Americans. I’m also working to address the root problem of student debt, which is the rising costs of higher education, through my COLLEGE Act to hold higher education institutions responsible for students’ outcomes.
  • I also reintroduced my Let’s Get to Work Act to encourage those who can work to do so, instead of relying on taxpayer-funded programs that should be safety nets and my Protect Our Seniors Act to help preserve and protect this program for current and future generations.
  • My School Guardian Act, to continue my work to ensure kids in schools throughout the nation are safe, and my Ask Act to protect kids from the dangers of AI. Every child is worth protecting and we should never make the job harder for parents. As a father and grandfather I understand the importance of keeping our kids safe and will never stop fighting to do so.

My team was also named the best Constituent Services team in the nation working throughout ten offices in Florida and DC who are committed to serving Florida families and connecting them with federal resources – we are here to WORK FOR YOU.  Visit our website, www.rickscott.senate.gov.

I’m proud to be your United States Senator. Representing hardworking Florida families is the greatest job in the world. My team and I love what we do, and we are going to keep fighting every day of 2024 to MAKE WASHINGTON WORK.

Sincerely,

Dear Fellow Floridian,

Over the past few months, I have grown more and more concerned by the uptick in antisemitism in our communities, on our campuses and even in our nation’s capital.

I will always stand with Israel and Florida’s Jewish community. I’ve met with the families of so many of those still in being held hostage by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists, and their dedication to spreading their family members’ stories and standing with Israel is inspiring. It’s why I am dedicated to doing everything I can to help bring them ALL home.

But we must also address the hatred in our own nation. It’s why I introduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which directs the Department of Education to use of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when investigating antisemitic acts on campus. I’m also demanding an immediate vote on my  Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act. This bill would rescind federal education funding for colleges and universities that peddle antisemitism or authorize, fund or facilitate events that promote violent antisemitism.

Ann and I were also proud to donate my Senate salary to causes across our state and country, like the Florida Holocaust Museum, the Jewish Federations of North Americaand the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center, that help educate Florida families on the horrors of antisemism and how we can better stand with our great friend, Israel.

I will NEVER tolerate this hate, and will ALWAYS stand with the Jewish people and support Israel. This holiday season, I hope that you will join my family in praying for these families and all in Israel and around the world who has been hurt by terrorism and hate.

Sen. Rick Scott: CFP Response Fails to Answer Questions, Provide Transparency on FSU Snub

Senator Rick Scott continued his fight for transparency from the College Football Playoff (CFP) following Executive Director Bill Hancock’s inadequate response to his request. Senator Scott’s original letter which was sent on December 4th, one day after the CFP made the unprecedented decision to snub Florida State University (FSU), requested answers as to why the undefeated, Power Five conference champion was excluded from the playoffs for the first time in the Committee’s 10-year history. In its response, the CFP failed to answer any of the 10 questions Senator Scott posed in his initial letter.

Sens. Rick Scott and Gary Peters Applaud Passage of Bipartisan Bill to Mitigate Waste, Fraud and Abuse Following Natural Disasters

Senator Rick Scott applauded the passage of his bipartisan Disaster Contract Improvement Act with Senators Gary Peters and Jacky Rosen to improve the disaster contracting process on the federal, state and local levels of government following natural disasters and mitigate waste, fraud and abuse. The bill aims to protect victims of natural disasters by ensuring post-disaster services are delivered quickly and taxpayer dollars are spent solely on helping impacted communities. The Disaster Contract Improvement Act was approved by the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) earlier this year.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Florida is no stranger to natural disasters. But thankfully, Florida is resilient because of the intense preparation that goes into our disaster readiness planning. Sadly, even when we prepare, all too often we have seen waste, fraud and abuse following storms. It hurts our families, local governments, and the American taxpayer. My bill, the Disaster Contract Improvement Act, will help stop this waste and make sure that every dollar is spent with care, preserving resources for future disaster response efforts. I want to applaud its passage and thank Chairman Peters and Senator Rosen for joining me in this good, bipartisan bill. The Disaster Contract Improvement Act is a win for American taxpayers.”

Sen. Rick Scott Announces Senate Salary Donation to The Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg

Senator Rick Scott and Mrs. Ann Scott announced they will donate a portion of his 4th quarter Senate salary to The Florida Holocaust Museum. The Florida Holocaust Museum, located in St. Petersburg, honors the memory of millions of innocent men, women and children who suffered or died in the Holocaust. The museum is dedicated to teaching all people the inherent worth and dignity of human life to prevent future genocides. Senator Scott has donated his Senate salary since taking office in 2019, and will be making additional donation announcements later this week.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Ann and I are proud to support the mission of the Florida Holocaust Museum and its dedication to educating Floridians on the horrors of the Holocaust. Our country is witnessing a disgusting rise in antisemitic events, and these terrible incidents have only grown more frequent and vile since Iran-backed Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7th. The Florida Holocaust Museum serves as a beacon of light and a reminder that while the Jewish people have endured thousands of years of hate and persecution, we will never let hate win and destroy Israel or the Jewish people. The Florida Holocaust Museum was also a cause so important to our dear friend, Mel Sembler, who we lost earlier this year. Mel spent so much of his life as a voice for the Jewish people and supporting Israel. We are proud to honor his legacy with this donation today.”

Sen. Rick Scott, Sen. Mike Rounds, Chair Patrick McHenry & Rep. Warren Davidson Lead 76 Colleagues in Bicameral Letter to FinCEN Demanding Delay of Red-Tape Rule on Small Businesses

Following concerns from constituents and small business groups about a new financial reporting requirement expected to take effect in just a few weeks, Senators Rick Scott and Mike Rounds, House Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry and Representative Warren Davidson led 76 of their colleagues in sending a bicameral letter to Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, and Andrea Gacki, Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), requesting a delay in the implementation of new reporting requirements for small businesses. The new federal reporting requirements would expand FinCEN to collect and store confidential personal information about small businesses that have fewer than 20 full-time employees. This substantial regulation that impacts nearly every small business in America is expected to take effect January 1st and impact 32.6 million small businesses who are largely unaware of the new requirements that carry significant criminal and civil penalties for non-compliance.

Sen. Rick Scott to America’s Grocery Stores: Protect Customers, Stop Selling Sewage Garlic From Communist China

Senator Rick Scott sent letters to America’s major grocers urging them to proactively take Chinese Sewage Garlic off their shelves to reduce risk to their customers and demonstrate that they will only sell products that are verifiably safe for consumption. This letter follows the recent letter Senator Scott sent to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo urging the Department of Commerce to investigate the food safety of garlic grown in Communist China following reports that the garlic is being grown in human sewage, then bleached and harvested in abhorrent conditions, often with slave labor. In the coming weeks, Senator Scott is introducing the SEWAGE GARLIC Imports Act and the SEWAGE GARLIC Imports Tariff Act to address the growth practices and safety of garlic produced in China for human consumption.

Sens. Rick Scott and Joe Manchin Lead introduction of Iran SDR Exchange Prohibition Act

Senator Rick Scott and Senator Joe Manchin announced the introduction of their Iran SDR Exchange Prohibition Act to prohibit the U.S. Treasury Secretary from exchanging dollars for International Monetary Fund (IMF) Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) held by Iran. SDRs allow countries to lay claim to dollars, euros, and other major currencies to use with no strings attached. Iran’s SDRs currently total more than $6.7 billion and represent unconditional liquidity for Iran to back terrorist organizations, like Hamas, that are attacking a United States ally, Israel. The amount an IMF country gets from an SDR allocation is largely based on a country’s position in the world economy, meaning most of the money goes to wealthy countries and rogue regimes, and not the countries that need it most. Congressmen French Hill and Brad Sherman introduced the companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As Iran-backed Hamas terrorists attack our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, the United States cannot be in the business of allowing IMF to be a piggy bank to Iran, funding these attacks or any future ones. Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. Its leaders chant, ‘Death to America’ and want to destroy Israel. Iran is behind the brutal terrorists that beheaded babies, raped and killed young women, burned people alive and are still holding Americans hostage. This legislation closes the door for Iran to receive U.S. support through the IMF, which has grossly acted as an open financial channel to Iran for too long. I am proud to join Senator Manchin, Congressman Hill and Congressman Sherman to lead this bipartisan, bicameral effort, and look forward to it becoming law.”

Sen. Rick Scott Announces Senate Salary Donation to Jewish Federations of North America’s Israel Emergency Fund

Senator Rick Scott and Mrs. Ann Scott announced they will donate a portion of his 4th quarter Senate salary to the Jewish Federations of North America for its Israel Emergency fund. The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) represents nearly 400 independent Jewish communities, and works closely with the Government of Israel and a variety of agencies to secure the Jewish State; help the most vulnerable groups, including immigrants and Holocaust survivors; and strengthen and rebuild Jewish life throughout the world. Yesterday, Senator Scott announced a donation to The Florida Holocaust Museum and will be making an additional announcement tomorrow. Senator Scott has donated his Senate salary since taking office in 2019.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Ann and I are proud to support the incredible work of the Jewish Federations of North America, which has a direct impact on Jewish populations in Florida, Israel, across America and worldwide. The wide network of JFNA is a support system for Jewish families, protecting them when needed, helping develop strong communities, and providing safe places for them to worship and grow their faith. This is especially critical as our Jewish communities face attacks from Iran-backed Hamas terrorists in Israel and increased threats and anti-Semitic attacks around the world. I’ve had the opportunity to visit Israel several times, and my wife Ann and I visited Kfar Aza, a kibbutz that was site to a complete massacre. These communities need the strong support, protection and assistance of groups like JFNA, and we’re incredibly humbled to make this announcement today.”

Sen. Rick Scott Announces Senate Salary Donation to Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center in Naples

Senator Rick Scott and Mrs. Ann Scott announced they will donate a portion of his 4th quarter Senate salary to the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center in Naples, Florida. The Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center’s mission is to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against bigotry, hatred and violence. It also offers education programs focused on middle and high school students in Southwest Florida and the community at large. Earlier this week, Senator Scott announced donations to The Florida Holocaust Museum and the Jewish Federations of North America. Senator Scott has donated his Senate salary since taking office in 2019.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Ann and I are grateful for the opportunity to support the Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center in our home town of Naples. This important organization reaches thousands of students and visitors every year, and is a staple in the Southwest Florida community. I remember when Ann and I brought our daughters to the Auschwitz memorial and museum in Poland. We spent two days walking the grounds, learning and confronting the horrors that occurred there – and understanding the meaning of the promise ‘never again.’ The Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center is committed to shining a light on these horrors, and ensuring students learn the history of the Holocaust and see for themselves why antisemitism is disgusting, evil and has no place in our society.”

Senator Rick Scott and Senators Roger Wicker, Marco Rubio and Bill Cassidy sent a letter to Janet Coit, Assistant Administrator for Fisheries at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), urging the implementation of the Fishery Resource Disasters Improvement Act (FREDI). This law, if it is implemented properly, has the potential to improve the fishery disaster assistance process at the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service and restore confidence and faith in the fishery disaster assistance process by increasing transparency and user experience when applying for relief.
