Dear Fellow Floridian,

One of my privileges as your U.S. Senator is to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC). Each year, it’s our job to develop the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a bipartisan and bicameral agreement to invest in our military and our national defense. This year, I’m especially proud of the wins I fought to secure for Florida families in the NDAA just passed by the SASC this week.

For our service members in Florida, I fought aggressively in this NDAA to secure a 4.5% pay raise, $3 million for Child Development Center (CDC) construction to increase access to childcare for military families in the Panhandle, and with Russian warships now 90 miles off our shores, I made sure that Homestead Air Reserve Base will continue to serve a critical mission for years to come.

I am also proud to have personally fought for and secured big wins for the United States against Communist China, including making sure the Department of Defense (DoD) buys generic drugs made in the U.S. to cut dependence on our enemies for these essential medicines, stopping the DoD purchase of Chinese computers and printers which pose a threat to our national security when connected to secure networks, and even eliminated disgusting Chinese garlic from our commissaries.

The United States is at a critical moment where military strength is essential to preserving our national security and fending off the threats of tyranny and terrorism that are rising around the globe. This NDAA reflects what must be done to combat the threats posed by our enemies in Communist China, Iran and Russia, protect our allies and partners in Israel, the Philippines and across Europe, and protect and grow our military strength in Florida where we have massive defense assets that are critical to our national security.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Rand Paul in Letter Requesting Hearing on Threat of Terrorists Exploiting Southern Border

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) along with Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Lankford (R-OK), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Roger Marshall (R-KS), all Republican members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, in sending a letter to committee Chairman Gary Peters requesting a hearing to examine the threat of individuals exploiting the southern border for potential terrorist activities.

The letter outlines how the Biden administration has allowed millions to cross the border, including an increased number of individuals with potential criminal and terrorist intent, such as the recent arrests of eight foreign nationals with suspected ties to ISIS. Since 2021, an alarming 360 individuals on the terrorist watchlist attempting to cross the Southwest border illegally have been apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Due to these numbers, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray expressed concern over the threat posed by the increased number of known or suspected terrorists attempting to exploit the Biden administration’s vulnerable border policies. As a result, the senators request a hearing with top officials from the relevant federal agencies to discuss strategies on how to handle the significant increase in terrorists entering the country due to the Biden administration’s failed policies.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Marco Rubio to Fight Incorrect Army Corps Legal Interpretation Impeding Hurricane Risk Reduction Projects

In response to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) misinterpreting a section of law in a way that undermines critical hurricane risk reduction projects in Florida, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marco Rubio and members of the Florida delegation in a bipartisan letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, urging them to include a legislative solution in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2024. The USACE’s current incorrect application of the law imposes burdensome requirements on local project sponsors in violation of existing project construction agreements.

The members wrote, “Our provision will protect public infrastructure and the lives and livelihoods of Americans residing in and visiting Florida, which the USACE has arbitrarily and callously placed under unacceptable risk in contravention of their mission.”

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Ted Cruz to Introduce No Tax on Tips Act

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Ted Cruz to introduce legislation to exempt tips from being subject to taxation under the federal income tax, the No Tax on Tips Act. Joining Senators Scott and Cruz are Senators Steve Daines and Kevin Cramer, and has the support of industry groups including the National Restaurant Association.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Under Biden’s administration, families are struggling to make ends meet with 20% inflation and policies that make their lives harder. We need to take action now to lower costs for hardworking Americans and get our economy back on track. During my time as Governor of Florida, we cut taxes over 100 times to help businesses thrive and families keep more of their hard earned dollars. It’s time we do that on the federal level with our No Tax on Tips Act.”

Sen. Rick Scott Shares Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. “Bidenomics” has caused the price of groceries, rent, fuel and electricity to skyrocket for American families. President Biden’s handling of the economy has been a failure since day one, and inflation is out of control with CPI up 20.1% and PPI up 19.2%.

Senator Scott has been sharing weekly handouts with his colleagues and office visitors to provide a snapshot of the economy. This week, Senator Scott’s “Breaking Down Bidenomics” handout focused on unaffordable housing, household debt, credit card delinquency and the overall sentiment of renters losing hope, all thanks to the Bidenomics agenda.

Sen. Rick Scott Takes Action to Support Nationwide IVF Access

Last week, as Senate Democrats forced a vote on a partisan bill on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and continued to lie about Republican support of IVF and contraception, Senator Rick Scott took action in support of nationwide access to IVF.

Senator Scott has been clear that he fully supports IVF, which is personal for him as his youngest daughter is currently undergoing IVF treatments to grow her family. Along with leading a bicameral resolution supporting IVF, Senator Scott recently announced during remarks on the Senate floor that he is drafting and will soon introduce legislation to help individuals and families better plan and pay for medical expenses, like IVF, by decoupling Health Savings Accounts (HSA) from high-deductible health plans, and increasing the current contribution limits on HSAs. More details on this legislation will be released in the coming weeks. Read more HERE.

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING IVF:

In March, Senator Scott introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate expressing support for Americans who are starting and growing families through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Representative Kat Cammack (FL-3) is leading the resolution in the House of Representatives. Read more HERE.

FLOOR SPEECH SUPPORTING IVF:

Senator Scott delivered remarks on the Senate floor making clear his total support for IVF, which his youngest daughter is currently using to grow her family, and highlighting his bicameral resolution supporting Americans who are starting and growing families through IVF. During his speech, Senator Scott also announced his work to draft legislation to help individuals and families better plan and pay for medical expenses, like IVF, by decoupling Health Savings Accounts (HSA) from high-deductible health plans, and increasing the current contribution limits on HSAs. STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR IVF:

Senator Scott joined Senators Katie Britt and Ted Cruz, and all their Republican Senator colleagues, in a joint statement supporting continued nationwide access to in vitro fertilization. The full text of the statement can be found here and below:

The senators wrote, “Senate Democrats have embraced a Summer of Scare Tactics—a partisan campaign of false fearmongering intended to mislead and confuse the American people. In vitro fertilization is legal and available in every state across our nation. We strongly support continued nationwide access to IVF, which has allowed millions of aspiring parents to start and grow their families.”

Dear Fellow Floridian,

With inflation still sky-high and our southern border still wide open for criminals, cartels and terrorists to come across, Senator Schumer and Senate Democrats chose to dedicate this week to political stunts over solving these pressing problems.

You might have heard about the so-called “Right to Contraception Act,” which misleads the public on the accessibility of contraception and threatens the religious freedoms and parental rights of millions of Americans.

Really, it’s just another way for Democrats to use activist attorneys and our courts to advance their radical agenda instead of focusing on the issues that are impacting American families’ way of life every single day. It’s unacceptable, and that is why I led a majority of Senate Republicans in a statement to oppose this bill.

“There is no threat to access to contraception, which is legal in every state and required by law to be offered at no cost by health insurers, and it’s disgusting that Democrats are fearmongering on this important issue to score cheap political points. This bill infringes on the parental rights and religious liberties of some Americans and lets the federal government force religious institutions and schools, even public elementary schools, to offer contraception like condoms to little kids. It’s just another way for Democrats to use activist attorneys and our courts to advance their radical agenda and that is why we oppose this bill.”

Next week, Democrats are going to try and lie to you again and say that Republicans want to ban in vitro fertilization (IVF). Not true. I am actually leading a resolution in the Senate supporting IVF, with Florida Congresswoman Kat Cammack leading it in the House. My daughter is using IVF and so do countless Floridians and Americans. So while IVF remains available in all 50 states, I introduced this resolution so we can make clear our unwavering support for current and aspiring parents using IVF to start and grow their families.

There are so many real problems facing our country that have been caused by the failed policies of the Biden administration, and Democrats’ stunt votes and lies to fearmonger on issues like contraception and IVF are both unproductive and dangerous. No matter what political roadblocks Washington Democrats try to throw in our way, I’ll keep fighting to solve problems and make Washington work for you.

Sincerely,

Sen. Rick Scott Hosts Families & Advocates on Capitol Hill Marking June 6th Naloxone Awareness Day

Image

Senator Rick Scott hosted families and advocates on Capitol Hill to mark June 6th as Naloxone Awareness Day and share remarks highlighting the life-saving drug, Naloxone, bringing attention to the lethal opioid epidemic that continues to plague American families. Yesterday, Senator Scott was proud to announce the unanimous passage of his and Senator Ed Markey’s bipartisan resolution recognizing June 6th as Naloxone Awareness Day. The resolution promotes awareness of the life-saving drug, Naloxone, which reverses opioid overdoses and prevents unnecessary deaths. It also aims to educate members of the public about the importance of recognizing the signs of overdose, and equipping themselves with the life-saving antidote. This resolution has been endorsed by Victoria’s Voice, a Florida-based foundation that aims to bring Naloxone awareness to the national stage. Yesterday, following the passage of the resolution, Senator Scott released the following statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Too many mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends have been lost to opioid poisoning in America. Naloxone saves lives and it is a critical tool in our fight to stop the loss caused by opioids in communities across our nation. I am proud to again lead and secure the Senate passage of this resolution with Senator Markey to designate June 6th as Naloxone Awareness Day, helping raise awareness and educate Americans about this life-saving drug. I also want to highlight the Victoria’s Voice Foundation and the Siegel Family for the lifesaving work they do on advocacy and education about the dangers of opioids. This organization was started following a parent’s worst nightmare – the loss of a child – and they have made it their mission to ensure folks are educated and prepared to save lives.”

Jackie and David Siegel, co-founders of Victoria’s Voice Foundation, said, “We continue to be grateful to Senator Scott, Senator Markey, and their colleagues for passing a bipartisan resolution designating June 6 as National Naloxone Awareness Day. This helps ensure awareness of and access to the lifesaving opioid overdose medicine that will save numerous lives. We believe that our daughter, Victoria, would still be alive today if the first responders who arrived on the day she accidentally overdosed had been equipped with naloxone.”

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Marco Rubio & Rep. Carlos Giménez to Introduce Bipartisan Bill Keeping Airports Secure From State Sponsors of Terrorism

Following a delegation of the illegitimate, criminal and communist Cuban regime touring the TSA facilities at Miami International Airport last month, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marco Rubio, Representative Carlos Giménez and their colleagues to introduce the bicameral and bipartisan Secure Airports From Enemies (SAFE) Act to restrict State Sponsors of Terrorism, including Cuba, from accessing TSA areas. Last month, Senator Scott joined his colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and TSA Administrator David Pekoske regarding this serious national threat.

Joining Sens. Scott, Rubio and Representative Giménez are Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL).

Senator Rick Scott said, “What the Biden administration allowed to happen at Miami International Airport (MIA) is absolutely insane. Everything this administration does puts America at risk and it must end. I’m proud to join my colleagues in introducing the SAFE Act to keep State Sponsors of Terrorism, like the illegitimate, communist Cuban regime, out of secure TSA areas. This is common sense but necessary to keep the lawless, appeasement-obsessed Biden administration from putting Americans at further risk. The House and Senate should pass this bill ASAP.”

This bill was first passed by Nancy Pelosi’s Democrat-controlled House in 2022 and now Senate Democrats are trying to revive it in a desperate attempt to deceive the American people. These additions bring the total number of signers to 26 senators, a majority of the Senate Republican Conference.

Joining Senator Scott in signing the statement are Senators Ron Johnson, Eric Schmitt, Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Kevin Cramer, Ted Budd, James Lankford, Jim Risch, Mike Rounds, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Katie Britt, Bill Hagerty, Cynthia Lummis, John Thune, Lindsey Graham, Thom Tillis, Mike Crapo, Steve Daines, Jerry Moran, Tommy Tuberville, Roger Marshall and Pete Ricketts.

Sen. Rick Scott to HSGAC Chairman Gary Peters: Investigate NIH Royalty Payment Profits

In case you missed it, back in May 2022, Senator Rick Scott wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Gary Peters, requesting an investigation be launched into the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and their policies for royalty payments collected by NIH employees financially benefitting from their discoveries commercialized by outside pharmaceutical or medical device makers. In his letter, Senator Scott also requests that the committee conduct oversight of taxpayer-funded royalty payments to NIH researchers and the potential conflicts of interest that could exist. This investigation is top of mind for Senator Scott as Dr. Anthony Fauci testifies before Congress regarding his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic where Dr. Fauci personally profited.

Additionally, earlier this Congress, Senator Scott and Senator Rand Paul’s Royalty Transparency Act of 2024 advanced out of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on a bipartisan vote of 12-0. The bill increases transparency on royalty payments paid to Executive Branch officials and makes the financial disclosure forms public for federal advisory committee members such as the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Under current law, federal employees are not required to publicly disclose the source or amount of royalty payments received in service of their official duties. Additionally, the financial disclosures of members of federal advisory committees are not available to the public, despite the fact that these committees make recommendations to federal agencies that have a significant impact on the day-to-day lives of Americans. This lack of transparency prevents taxpayers from holding individuals accountable within the federal government for conflicts of interest and other abuse. Read more HERE.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Researchers at the NIH serve the American taxpayer first. The recent news reports that have emerged showcasing the continued lack of transparency with royalty payments is absolutely absurd. NIH employees should not be personally profiting from their discoveries, and it is beyond time for accountability. We must take action against this gross misuse of taxpayer-funded resources TODAY.”

Senate Approves Senators Rick Scott, John Boozman & Chris Coons Resolution Commemorating 80th Anniversary of D-Day

In advance of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution led by Senator Rick Scott, Senator John Boozman and Senator Chris Coons commemorating this historic operation and expressing gratitude and appreciation to the members of the U.S. Armed Forces and Allied troops responsible for carrying out this unprecedented maneuver that proved decisive in securing victory in Europe.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Eighty years ago, American soldiers stormed the beaches of France or parachuted behind enemy lines. My father was one of them, ultimately doing all four combat jumps with the 82nd Airborne in Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Market Garden. While my father was lucky enough to return home, he certainly didn’t think he would that day. But that didn’t stop him and so many others from putting their lives on the line to fight for freedom and stand against tyranny. Every year on this day, we remember and honor members of the Allied forces and say thank you to the Greatest Generation for their bravery and sacrifice who are truly an inspiration to us all.”

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Tom Cotton in Letter to AG Garland: Investigate ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tom Cotton, along with Senators Mike Braun (R-Indiana) and J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to investigate International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan. The senators wrote that Khan has broken American law by materially supporting terrorism through his targeting of Israeli officials.

The senators wrote, “The ICC’s action against Israel—which Hamas requested and now applauds—manifestly provides ‘material support’ to Hamas by attempting to isolate Israel politically and diplomatically through legal advocacy for Hamas. The extent of ICC-Hamas coordination is unknown, but express statements by Mr. Khan and others associated with the prosecution suggest that the coordination may have been extensive.”

Sen. Rick Scott Shares Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ May jobs report showing that year over year, part-time employment is up 1.5 million jobs in May—a 5.8% increase, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement along with a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. This jobs report confirms that the Biden administration’s handling of the economy has continued to increase inflation, and forced hardworking American’s into taking on multiple jobs to make ends meet. In addition to this staggering fact, native-born employment fell while foreign-born employment increased. Meanwhile, veteran employment decreased over the year, while government jobs at all levels continue to rise. This jobs report is another reminder that the Bidenomics agenda is working against the American people, and ripping the chance of the American Dream away them.

Senator Rick Scott said, “It’s time for fiscal responsibility at the White House and in Congress and for the Biden administration to stop lying about job growth. Under Joe Biden’s watch and his so-called economic plan, known as ‘Bidenomics,’ full-time jobs have decreased while the price of groceries, gas, rent and mortgages have skyrocketed. Unemployment is now 4% and we now have more Americans working multiple jobs and part time jobs. In what world can the administration say their handling of the economy is good? The Biden administration has killed jobs and the American people are feeling the consequences every day. Americans shouldn’t have to work two and three jobs just to make ends meet. It’s time Washington started living within its means and I won’t stop fighting until that happens.”

Hurricane Season Is Here, Make a Plan Today!

Dear Fellow Floridian,

This hurricane season, I urge all Floridians to take the time to make a plan in case of emergency, stock up on supplies and stay alert to weather threats to make sure that our families and businesses are prepared for a storm.

Over the past years, I have seen firsthand the destruction left behind by multiple devastating hurricanes – Michael, Irma, Hermine, Matthew and most recently, Ian, Fiona and Idalia. If there is one thing I learned, it’s that Florida is resilient. Our state and local communities come together in times of need and work incredibly hard to recover from these storms.

Last week, I traveled across the state and met with local emergency managers, elected leaders and business owners to discuss the importance of planning ahead for the 2024 hurricane season. Every community in Florida has felt the devastating effects of a hurricane or tropical storm, and it is vital for families to plan ahead of time.

Florida is resilient because we prepare for storms. I cannot stress this enough: preparedness saves lives. We can always rebuild a home, but we can’t rebuild a life.

Senator Rick Scott made annual visit to Mexico Beach

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – U.S. Senator Rick Scott made his annual visit to Mexico Beach Tuesday morning to talk about hurricane preparedness.

Sen. Scott has made Mexico Beach a stop on his statewide preparedness tour for several years.

After Hurricane Michael hit here in 2018, then-Governor Scott was here almost every day helping oversee the recovery effort and helping secure resources.

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford, State Representative Griffin Griffitts, Mexico Beach’s Mayor Richard Wolff, Fire Chief Sandy Walker, and most of the county commissioners, all joined Sen. Scott urging people to prepare ahead of time for the upcoming season.

“Your responsibility is to have a plan. You need to have an evacuation plan. You need to have a plan for your family, a plan for your kids, a plan for your spouse, a plan for everybody. You need to make sure you have everything you need. Seven days of food, seven days of water, you need a radio, all of your prescriptions. Just think of anything you might need if the power goes out,” Sen. Rick Scott said.

Hurricane season in 4 days on June 1st. Sen. Scott urges Floridians to take advantage of the tax-free holiday on hurricane supplies, which runs from June 1 through the 15th.

Sen. Scott urges hurricane preparedness: ‘You have to do your part’

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – County, state and federal officials are opening hurricane season with a warning: be ready, or be sorry.

“Everybody here is going to work their butt off to keep you alive. But you have to do your part,” said Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.).

Scott held a press conference in St. Pete Beach to urge Floridians to be ready.

“But the odds are somewhere in our state we’re going to have a landfall,” he said.

NOAA is predicting a busier than normal hurricane season, featuring between 17 and 25 named storms, compared to an average of 14.

But no one can no where a storm is going to hit, until it does. Florida learned that the hard way in 2022, when Hurricane Ian seemed to be on its way to Tampa Bay, but then claimed 150 lives in the Fort Myers area, often people who either didn’t follow warnings, or didn’t get them in time.

“It’s been over 100 years since Tampa Bay has had a direct hit, from a major hurricane,” said State Rep. Berny Jacques (R-Clearwater). “But that’s no reason to be complacent. And, in fact, I’m going to knock on wood, at some point, that luck is going to run out.”

Pinellas County Emergency managers started their public relations effort today to urge people to gather hurricane kits now, to know where vital information is going to come from, and to believe officials when they say it’s time to go.

“In the last few years, we’ve certainly seen a reduction in the number of people coming to shelters,” said Pinellas EOC director Cathie Perkins. “We hope that’s the fact that we’ve done such a good job on educating people that they can go other places. I think there is a complacency, and we have been trying to address that.”

They see some hope in an adjusted hurricane warning system, which the National Hurricane Center will begin releasing in August.

There will still be cones and spaghetti models, but a new graphic will color code where all the different levels of watches and warnings are in place.

“We know that that cone only shows we’re at the center of the storm is two-thirds of the time,” said Perkins. “So people aren’t thinking about the extent of how far out those impacts are. So I think that new graphic does help convey that.”

Now is a great opportunity for your family to stock your disaster supply kits with vital supplies like a first aid kit, a radio, flashlights, batteries and other necessities. Your kit should also include 7 days worth of food and water, prescription medications and any important documents.

This week, Floridians can restock their hurricane preparedness kits tax-free. The sales tax holiday ends on Friday, June 14 so make sure to take advantage of the savings while you can.

Sen. Rick Scott Hosts Roundtable on Fentanyl Crisis with Families, Law Enforcement Leaders, Subject-Matter Experts

Senator Rick Scott hosted a roundtable discussion on the fentanyl crisis plaguing Florida families and communities across America. The discussion focused on personal stories from parents who have been personally impacted by this crisis as well as representatives from law enforcement and subject-matter experts.

Image

Senator Scott continues to be a leader in combating the lethal fentanyl crisis. Earlier this Congress, Senator Scott’s bipartisan legislation, the Eradicating Narcotic Drugs and Formulating Effective New Tools to Address National Yearly Losses of Life (END FENTANYL) Act, was signed into law by President Joe Biden. The END FENTANYL Act will require the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to update its policies at least once every three years to ensure operational field manuals, including their drug interdiction guidance, are up to date. This legislation builds off the 2019 GAO report, “Land Ports of Entry: CBP Should Update Policies and Enhance Analysis of Inspections,” that found drug interdiction guidance has not been updated in 20 years. The END FENTANYL Act was cosponsored by Senators Jacky Rosen, Mike Braun, Maggie Hassan and Mark Kelly. Representatives Michael Guest and David Trone led the charge in the House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I have been fighting for years to put an end to the deadly fentanyl crisis that continues to ravage communities and hurt families in Florida and across the nation. I constantly hear about the devastating loss caused by fentanyl in Florida and today we heard more heartwrenching stories about the totally preventable destruction its causing in our state and challenges fentanyl and Biden’s open border creates for our law enforcement. In March, my END FENTANYL Act was finally signed into law—but we aren’t stopping there. President Biden must do more to secure the border and stop the lethal fentanyl that continues to flow illegally into the U.S. over the southern border he has left wide open and kills tens of thousands of our citizens. Joe Biden’s wide open border is intentional, hurts those who want to live the dreams of this nation and allows dangerous individuals and drugs across our border. Too many lives have been lost from fentanyl flowing illegally into our communities. That’s why I’m continuing to fight to SECURE THE BORDER, hold the administration accountable, and pass critical legislation to combat this heartbreaking epidemic.”

Earlier this month, Senator Scott joined his colleagues in introducing a resolution designating May 7, 2024, as National Fentanyl Awareness Day as he continues his fight to bring needed attention to the negative impacts of the rise of fentanyl poisoning in the United States. In addition to these priorities, Senator Scott has sponsored the following bills and taken the following actions against the fentanyl crisis. Read about each HERE.

Dear Fellow Floridian,

As I travel across the state, I constantly hear about the devastating loss caused by fentanyl in Florida. This week, I hosted a roundtable with families that have lost a loved one to fentanyl, law enforcement leaders and subject matter experts in Kissimmee, where I heard more heart-wrenching stories about the totally preventable destruction it’s causing in our state and the challenges fentanyl and Biden’s open border create for our law enforcement.

In March, my END FENTANYL Act was signed into law—but we aren’t stopping there. President Biden must do more to secure the border and stop the lethal fentanyl that continues to flow illegally into the U.S. over the southern border he has left wide open and kills tens of thousands of our citizens.

Sen. Rick Scott Attends Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Graduation, Shares Support for Law Enforcement

Image

Senator Rick Scott joined Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister at the graduation of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Law Enforcement Class 23-06 and delivered remarks congratulating the 48 new HSCO deputies and expressing his steadfast support for law enforcement. Following the ceremony, Sheriff Chronister recognized Senator Scott as an Honorary Deputy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I’m always proud to join our state’s brave law enforcement officers and thank them for their incredible work to keep our families safe. Every day, our sheriffs, their deputies and all law enforcement officers in Florida are placed in dangerous situations to keep us safe. The current crisis on our southern border is making that job even harder as the Biden administration allows drugs, criminals and terrorists to pour into our country. We must end this crisis by securing the border and stopping the deadly drugs and crime that endanger Florida families and put law enforcement at risk. It was an honor to be sworn in as an Honorary Deputy today by Sheriff Chronister, congratulate these new deputies and reiterate to the entire HSCO team that I am their partner in Washington. I will never stop fighting to support Florida’s law enforcement officers and working alongside them to keep Florida safe.”

Sen. Rick Scott: Passing the AMERICAN DRUGS Act Will Cut U.S. Reliance on Communist China

Senator Rick Scott issued the following statement urging the immediate passage of his Accelerating Movement of Essential Rx Items to Create Access to National Drug Resources for US Government Services Act (AMERICAN DRUGS Act) to cut U.S. reliance on drugs made in Communist China. Senator Scott’s AMERICAN DRUGS Act will create a strong incentive for companies to invest in domestic pharmaceutical production; address the ongoing and prevent future drug shortages; and shift away from reliance on Communist China. Currently, about 90% of drugs dispensed at U.S. pharmacies are generic drugs that overwhelmingly come from Communist China and India. Senators Mike Braun and J.D. Vance are cosponsors of the legislation.

As Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) Subcommittee on Personnel, Senator Scott has repeatedly pressed the Department of Defense to end its reliance on products from Communist China, including pharmaceutical drugs. Last month, in response to questioning from Senator Scott during a SASC hearing, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin agreed that the DoD must ensure that its supply chains “are not vulnerable to manipulation by adversaries. So it’s important to us to make sure that we don’t have elements from our adversaries included in our weapons systems and repair parts and you name it.”

Upon introduction of the AMERICAN DRUGS Act earlier this Congress, Senator Rick Scott said, “During COVID we learned a hard lesson—our medical supply chain relies heavily on Communist China for critical health products like PPE and medicine. It was a wake-up call to bring jobs back home and reignite American pharmaceutical manufacturing and why I’m fighting to pass the American Drugs Act. Americans can’t trust Communist China and can’t allow any reliance on Xi’s evil regime for life-saving medicine.”

Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Bill Supporting Miccosukee Tribe, Opposing Interior Department Takeover of Big Cypress National Preserve

Senator Rick Scott announced the introduction of the Prohibiting Wilderness Designations on Big Cypress National Preserve Act which would codify a request from the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida to oppose a proposed wilderness designation for Big Cypress National Preserve. Congressman Scott Franklin is leading the companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

This legislation follows a letter Senator Scott sent in March to the Department of the Interior Secretary Deb Haaland expressing deep concern and opposition to any proposed wilderness designation of the Big Cypress National Preserve that impedes the management of the preserve and public access. Stakeholders, such as the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, have raised valid concerns that the proposed wilderness designation would unnecessarily impede the effective management of invasive exotic species and the preservation of native fish and wildlife habitats while also restricting access to the public and tribes. Additionally, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida opposes the designation in areas within the Big Cypress National Preserve. Read more HERE.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Big Cypress is a cherished natural resource, and its proper management is crucial to preserving its ecological integrity while maintaining access opportunities for the public. The Interior Department’s proposal to designate Big Cypress as a wilderness area is a massive overstep by the federal government that would significantly diminish the conservation and recreational activities that those who live on and visit the preserve take very seriously to foster a connection between the public and nature today. I want to thank my colleagues for their support in protecting the integrity of Big Cypress National Preserve, and the Miccosukee Tribe for reaching out to my office to express their concerns. Together, we will continue working to ensure Big Cypress is managed in a way that benefits the public and preserves access for generations to come.”

Sen. Rick Scott Raises Concerns, Demands Objective Reporting & Accountability from Taxpayer-Funded NPR

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Laura Ross, Chair of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, raising concerns of declining public confidence in objective news reporting from National Public Radio (NPR). Recently, disturbing allegations of bias in NPR’s reporting, stemming from leadership that has been accused of politicizing the editorial process and favoring liberal narratives, has created a crisis of confidence in public radio’s ability to provide objective, fact-based news to the American public. Senator Scott is urging that public broadcasting services funded by American taxpayers not be politicized and is calling for Chair Ross to take the necessary action to restore and maintain public trust in America’s public radio and television networks.

Sen. Rick Scott to CISA: Repeated Hacking by Foreign Actors Risks National Security, Demands Accountability

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Jen Easterly, Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), regarding the ongoing hacks by Russian state actors that have exposed sensitive federal communications and the concerning trend of cybersecurity failures within and repeated hacks of the federal government. Senator Scott is disturbed that companies that contract with the federal government to perform key, extremely sensitive services continue to be susceptible to hacks from foreign actors and have not been held accountable following these attacks. The persistent failures to prevent these attacks put our national security at risk and Senator Scott is requesting immediate attention to these grave concerns and the threats to U.S. national security each of these incidents present.

Hurricane Preparedness Week

Dear Fellow Floridian,

This hurricane preparedness week, I urge all Floridians to take the time to make a plan in case of emergency, stock up on supplies and stay alert to weather threats to make sure that our families and businesses are prepared for a storm.

Throughout my time as governor and as your United States Senator, I have seen firsthand the destruction left behind by multiple devastating hurricanes – Michael, Irma, Hermine, Matthew and most recently, Ian, Fiona and Idalia. If there is one thing I learned, it’s that Florida is resilient. Our state and local communities come together in times of need and work incredibly hard to recover from these storms.

Florida is resilient because we prepare for storms. I cannot stress this enough: preparedness saves lives. We can always rebuild a home, but we can’t rebuild a life.

Dear Fellow Floridian,

As I travel around Florida, I consistently hear about how the broken Washington bureaucracies and regulations are making it difficult for Florida families and small businesses to thrive, especially when they become obstacles to our state’s recovery from hurricanes and natural disasters.

One thing I’m hearing from Floridians is the hurt the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and its rising costs are causing families, and I’m fighting tooth and nail in Washington to fix it. While we continue to work on permanent solutions to the problems plaguing the NFIP, we need to make sure hardworking folks have access to affordable coverage. That’s why I introduced and will be fighting to pass legislation that provides a non-refundable tax break to families who purchase flood insurance coverage through the private market or the NFIP. This commonsense bill ensures Floridians can maintain coverage without breaking the bank.

While many in Florida desperately need relief from rising NFIP costs, others are dealing with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) lack of action and total failure to release its review of USACE easement policies for construction projects, including for hurricane and storm damage risk reduction and coastal storm risk management (CSRM), as required in Section 8235 of the Water Resources and Development Act of 2022. I’ve repeatedly heard from Floridians that damage caused by recent storms and hurricanes increases the likelihood that further USACE inaction will greatly accelerate the deterioration of impacted areas. As another hurricane season approaches and these projects remain uncompleted, communities are losing valuable time to take needed actions to increase hurricane resiliency.

As I told them in my letter, time is of the essence. Any further delays on these projects could cause catastrophic damage to the coastal communities where they are located.

I’ve spent years fighting to reform the broken NFIP, and I won’t stop until it is fixed. Earlier this year, I reintroduced three bills, the Removing Barriers to Private Flood Insurance Act, the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act, and the Flood Insurance Transparency Act to reform the NFIP, which would help lower the cost of flood insurance, build a more robust private market and ensure the property insurance market better serves Florida families. I’ve also been aggressively seeking transparency from the administration on FEMA’s Risk Rating 2.0.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Both as your U.S. Senator and fellow Floridian, I share these frustrations and am laser-focused on holding folks accountable, finding solutions, and ultimately, making Washington work for the Sunshine State.

Sincerely,

Sen. Rick Scott Calls For Accountability Ahead of VA Secretary Visit to Florida

Ahead of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough’s visit to Jacksonville on April 23, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement demanding action from the secretary following multiple calls for accountability from the VA system. Following a tragic homicide at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center last month, Senator Scott led his colleagues in calling on Secretary McDonough to take immediate action and hold the management team responsible for their systematic failures and make it abundantly clear that changes in leadership at the poorly-ranked hospital are necessary to ensure the welfare and protection of the patients and staff.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While I am very happy Florida will be home to another VA facility to provide services to the millions of veterans who call the Sunshine State home, I am once again demanding that the Biden administration and Secretary McDonough finally take action and hold themselves accountable for failures that are hurting our veterans. The homicide last month at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is tragic and unacceptable. While in Florida, Secretary McDonough must announce what the VA is doing to ensure this never happens again—so far, no one has been held accountable, and my office has been met with silence on the issue. That is unacceptable, and we need answers. As a Navy veteran and the son of a World War II veteran, I know firsthand the sacrifices made by our military members and their families. If you put your life on the line in defense of our freedoms, your government should always have your back. That’s why I’m fighting every day as Florida’s U.S. Senator, to hold the VA accountable and make Washington work for our veterans and service members.”

Senators Rick Scott, Eric Schmitt & Republican Colleagues Demand Answers Regarding Proposed Biden ESG Rule for Federal Contractors

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Eric Schmitt, alongside Senators John Thune (R-SD), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Katie Britt (R-AL), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), to send a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, General Services Administrator Robin Carnahan, and NASA Administrator Bill Nelson to demand answers regarding an Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) regulation that would negatively impact government contractors.

The senators write, “The Federal Supplier Climate Risks and Resilience Rule (“Contractor Climate Rule”) would be a disaster, severely distracting your agencies from critical tasks of securing our nation from foreign adversaries and of exploring our universe. Simply put, this Administration should not use procurement policy in order to meet its radical environmental justice goals. Under the proposed rule, certain federal contractors and suppliers will be forced to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate-related financial risks and set science-based emissions reduction targets.”

The senators continue, “Public procurement objectives should ensure the government can acquire high-quality goods quickly and cheaply. Instead of being distracted by bureaucratic rules and regulations, your agencies should be focused on shooting missiles and shooting stars. We do not intend to stand idly by as this Administration again attempts to further a radical agenda through procurement policy—this time directly harming our defense and space industrial bases. If your agencies continue to move forward with this Contractor Climate Rule, Congress will have no choice but to introduce a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act and consider other legislative options to prevent this radical ESG policy.”

Sen. Rick Scott to Columbia University Board: Take Action Against Antisemitism or Lose Federal Funding

Following the ongoing antisemitic attacks against Jewish students at Columbia University, Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to the University’s Board of Trustees demanding it force leadership to take action that stops antisemitic actions and protects Jewish students, or replace the administration. Senator Scott has been adamant about protecting students at American colleges and universities who continue to be threatened by terrorist sympathizers calling for the eradication of Jewish people and the destruction of Israel. Senator Scott is fighting to pass his and Senator Tim Scott’s Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act, which he mentions in his letter. This bill would rescind federal education funding for colleges and universities that peddle antisemitism or authorize, fund or facilitate events that promote violent antisemitism.

Additionally, Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Bob Casey and Tim Scott to introduce the Antisemitism Awareness Act. The bill will help address antisemitic sentiment and action on college campuses—which has been rising across the nation for years and spiked in the wake of Hamas’ terrorist attack on October 7, 2023—by requiring the U.S. Department of Education to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism when enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Tom Cotton, Colleagues: Biden Administration Must Act to Protect Jewish Students from Pro-Hamas, Antisemitic Mobs

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tom Cotton and 25 of their Senate Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, urging them to restore order to campuses that have been effectively shut down by antisemitic mobs that are targeting Jewish students. The senators requested Attorney General Garland and Secretary Cardona provide an update on efforts to protect Jewish students by Wednesday, April 24.

Sen. Rick Scott on Q1 GDP Report: Bidenomics is Fueling America’s Decline

In response to the First Quarter 2024 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) announcement, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement highlighting failures of “Bidenomics” and economic hardships fueled by the Biden administration’s reckless tax-and-spend agenda. Today’s report shows that the fiscal health of the country is on decline—with GDP coming in at 1.6%, wildly below the expectation of 2.5%.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Under President Joe Biden’s failed leadership, the United States is in decline and the American Dream is dying. Bidenomics has been a complete disaster, America is not thriving and the American people are struggling. I’ve been warning about the dangers of Biden’s bad policies since the start of his administration and last year, I began distributing a quarterly Economic Snapshot that shows America’s decline under Biden’s disastrous agenda. Everywhere you look, companies are laying off employees and families are being stretched to the max by Biden’s raging inflation crisis and bad economy. That’s why we are seeing job reports that month after month show a growth in part-time jobs while full-time jobs decline.

“The reason for this economic failure is clear to every Floridian I talk to: reckless government spending and a massively growing regulatory regime are killing opportunity in this country, causing prices to skyrocket and digging America in nearly $35 TRILLION of debt that’s projected to grow by $1 TRILLION every 100 days. Even in the face of this hardship, I am always optimistic about the future of our country. I believe in the American Dream because I’ve lived it and showed during my time as governor of Florida that when you cut reckless spending, pay down the debt, and eliminate burdensome regulations, you can make government work for the people. It’s going to take hard work to bring fiscal sanity back to Washington, and it starts with getting Joe Biden out of the White House to stop his dangerous and socialist economic agenda.”

Sen. Rick Scott Calls on Biden to Fix His Illogical Carve Out for Chinese Solar, Crack Down on Child and Slave Labor

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following U.S. solar manufacturers’ move to file a trade petition for investigations and anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imported solar from southeast Asian nations, primarily by companies based in China. This comes amid reports that companies are forced to rethink their plans to invest in American-based solar factories and calls from several U.S. solar companies for the Biden administration to finally hold Communist Chinese solar companies accountable for circumventing U.S. trade laws by sending Chinese-made solar products – panels and components – through Southeast Asian countries, claiming they were made in the corresponding nation.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Last year, I led and Congress passed an Anti-Chinese Solar CRA, giving President Biden the opportunity to reverse his illogical pro-China rule that supports horrific slavery, child labor, and illegal business practices propped up by the Chinese Communist Party. Instead of standing against child labor and slavery, and supporting American-made solar manufacturers by signing my CRA, Biden chose cowardly appeasement of the genocidal regime in Communist China and vetoed it. American and allied nation businesses have been left struggling to fight for a level playing field ever since Biden put his thumb on the scale in favor of illegal trade activities. After two years of allowing Communist Chinese companies to benefit off Biden’s weakness, the president has the opportunity to finally do the right thing and hold these companies accountable. This would be the right move, and if Biden wants to leave the American people better off when he leaves office than they are today, he’d reverse the rest of the terrible policies he’s used to destroy our economy and undermine the national security of the United States.”

Sen. Rick Scott Slams Q1 GDP Report, Shares Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Earlier this week, in response to the First Quarter 2024 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) announcement, Senator Scott released the following statement highlighting failures of “Bidenomics” and economic hardships fueled by the Biden administration’s reckless tax-and-spend agenda. Yesterday’s report shows that the fiscal health of the country is on decline—with GDP coming in at 1.6%, wildly below the expectation of 2.5%, and comes as inflation has risen more than 19% since President Biden took office.

Sen. Rick Scott in The Hill: We Can’t Trust Joe Biden to Stand with Israel, Lead America on the World Stage

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for The Hill as the Senate is set to consider a massive $95 billion foreign aid package later today. In his op-ed, Senator Scott makes clear how Joe Biden’s decisions to appease Iran and cede his party to radical pro-Hamas extremists have shown that the American people cannot trust his administration, and outlines his concerns that without proper safeguards, the Biden administration will use this aid package as leverage against Israel.

Senator Scott recently returned from his sixth visit to Israel as Florida’s governor and now U.S. senator. Senator Scott met with Prime Minister Netanyahu to express the United States’ support for Israel as it defends itself from the Iran-backed Hamas terrorists that killed thousands on October 7, 2023 and is still holding hundreds, including Americans, hostage.

Senator Scott has repeatedly tried to pass standalone Israel aid in the Senate and Democrats have blocked it every time. In November 2023, less than two months after the October 7th attacks, Senator Scott voted to pass standalone Israel aid and Senate Democrats unanimously voted against it.

Russell Tuff President

I want to address a pressing concern that has been weighing heavily on our minds: the disappointing voter turnout in the recent presidential primary. It’s no secret that our community’s engagement in the democratic process fell short of our expectations. However, let us not dwell on past shortcomings, but instead, let us focus on the opportunities that lie ahead.

The upcoming primary election and general election are critical moments for our party and our nation. The decisions made during these elections will shape the course of our future and determine the direction our country will take. But to ensure that our voices are heard and our values upheld, we must rise to the occasion and actively participate in the electoral process.

The low voter turnout in the previous primary is a wake-up call for us all. It highlights the importance of civic engagement and the need for us to take ownership of our democracy. We cannot afford to sit idly by and allow others to dictate the fate of our nation. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to exercise our right to vote and to encourage others to do the same.

So, let us redouble our efforts in the days and weeks leading up to the primary election and the general election. We will continue to reach out to our fellow citizens, educate them about the candidates and issues at stake, and inspire them to cast their ballots.

We all don’t have to agree on a specific candidate, but we do need to go out and vote to ensure a robust and inclusive electoral process.

Together, we have the power to make a difference. Together, we can uphold the principles that have made our country great. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Thank you for your dedication to our party and our country. Let us go forth with determination and resolve, knowing that our efforts today will shape the tomorrow we envision.

Sincerely,

Russell Tuff

Dear Fellow Floridian,

When I came to Washington, I promised Florida families that I would fight every day to make Washington work for them – and that includes making sure the federal government keeps its promises to Florida families and doesn’t increase the cost of living. I’m hearing from Florida families every single day who are concerned about being able to pay the bills and put food on the table thanks to soaring inflation caused by Democrats’ reckless spending. It’s impacting everyone, and what’s scary is it could get worse thanks to regulations and policies the Biden administration passed just this week that I’m fighting to stop.

Florida’s seniors are facing the impacts of soaring costs and historic inflation. It’s forcing many people, including our seniors, to work multiple jobs or tap into their retirements to pay their bills. Adding insult to injury, Biden cut Medicare Advantage benefits again this week for the second year in a row. Nearly 60% of Florida’s Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage because it works. I will be fighting like hell to reverse this terrible decision that hurts our seniors and pass my Protect Our Seniors Act to stop Biden’s horrible war on seniors that is devastating for so many older Floridians. Read more HERE.

On top of that, Biden’s FEMA decided to eliminate discounts for some National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy holders in Lee County, Florida. I was proud to lead a letter urging them to reverse this terrible decision because insurance costs are already too high. This decision only makes that worse.

I’ve been fighting for years to reform the broken NFIP and lower costs for Florida families. I recently introduced several bills, including the Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which would require FEMA to offer Floridians the option to pay their flood insurance premiums monthly rather than in a larger lump sum once a year. Read more HERE.

Our country cannot afford more of Biden’s disastrous economic policies. It’s past time Washington returned to fiscal sanity and worked for you. Floridians shouldn’t have to worry about retirement, putting food on the table or affording insurance. Enough is enough, and as your U.S. Senator, I promise to keep fighting every day to get our country back on track before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

Sens. Rick Scott & Tom Cotton in Letter to Biden: Hosting Iraqi Prime Minister is Inappropriate, Undermines Israel

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tom Cotton and six of their congressional colleagues in sending a letter to President Joe Biden to express their deep concern with the White House’s plan to host Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in April.

The letter notes that President Biden’s decision to meet with Prime Minister al-Sudani at this time sends the message that the Biden administration is more interested in appeasing Iran than supporting Israel’s defeat of Hamas. The planned visit will occur even as Iraq continues to fund numerous terror groups and remains under significant Iranian influence. Co-signing the letter were Senators Ted Budd and Bill Hagerty and Congressmen Jake Ellzey, French Hill, Mike Turner and Mike Waltz.

Earlier this month, Senator Rick Scott returned from his sixth trip to Israel, where he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other high-ranking officials to discuss the United States’ and Israel’s shared priority of destroying Iran-backed Hamas terrorists that have killed thousands of individuals, including Americans since the October 7, 2023 attacks. Sen. Rick Scott Slams Biden’s Medicare Cuts

Following a decision by the Biden administration to cut Medicare Advantage benefits for the second year in a row, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement. Since being elected to the Senate, Senator Scott has fought to preserve and protect the benefits of programs like Medicare and Social Security. This Medicare Advantage benefits cut will result in the 2.8 million Florida seniors currently enrolled in Medicare Advantage, many of whom live on a fixed income, having their supplemental benefits reduced by $33 per month, or $396 per year. In Florida, 58% of Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicare Advantage. Last year, Senator Scott introduced the Protect Our Seniors Act to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden has no plan to protect Social Security, and now he just cut Medicare benefits. Biden’s war on seniors is disastrous – especially for seniors on fixed incomes who are already struggling with skyrocketing inflation. The takeaway from Biden’s actions is clear: Democrats don’t give a damn about the 2.8 MILLION Florida seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage who will see costs go up by nearly $400 a year. Nearly 60% of Florida’s Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage because it works. I will be fighting like hell to reverse this terrible decision that hurts our seniors and pass my Protect Our Seniors Act to stop Biden’s horrible war on seniors that is devastating for so many older Floridians.”

Senator Scott’s Protect Our Seniors Act includes three key provisions to protect the benefits of Social Security and Medicare and promote the long-term solvency of these critical programs:

  • Rescinds funding from the Inflation Reduction Act for 87,000 new IRS agents and redirects those funds to the Medicare and Social Security Administration Trust Funds to help shore up the solvency of each program.
  • Creates a Budget Point of Order, and requires a two-thirds vote, against any legislation that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) determines would reduce or cut existing Medicare and Social Security benefits.
  • Amends CBO scoring laws such that savings to Medicare cannot be used to offset or pay-for spending outside of Medicare.
  • NOTE: This tactic was used by Democrats for the “infrastructure bill” as well as the Inflation Reduction Act where Medicare savings were used as ‘pay-fors’ for green new deal projects and other wasteful spending.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Colleagues in Letter to FTC Blasting Senate Democrats’ Political Meddling in Oil and Gas Mergers

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, along with 34 of their Senate Republican colleagues, in calling on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to conduct a fair and unbiased review of recently announced oil and gas mergers after Senate Democrats requested the FTC investigate these major energy acquisitions by citing misleading and false allegations. Previously, Senate Democrats also urged the FTC to abuse its authority by arguing that such investigations must be used to stop these companies from discrediting “climate science,” “subverting our democratic processes,” and “frustrate self-governing” through more oil and gas production.

Sens. Rick Scott & Marco Rubio, Reps. Byron Donalds & Greg Steube Urge FEMA to Stop NFIP Cost Increases in Lee County

Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, joined by Congressmen Byron Donalds and Greg Steube, sent a letter today to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell urging her to reverse the agency’s recent decision to eliminate discounts for some National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy holders in Lee County, Florida. Previously, FEMA offered NFIP policyholders in Lee County a community premium discount of 25 percent, which will be eliminated for some policyholders if FEMA moves forward with its recent decision.

Senator Scott has been fighting for years to reform the broken NFIP and lower costs for Florida families. Senator Scott recently introduced the Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which would require FEMA to offer Floridians an option to pay their flood insurance premiums monthly, rather than in a larger lump sum once a year. In August 2023, Senator Scott wrote a letter to David Maurstad, Senior Executive of the NFIP, demanding transparency and accountability as FEMA’s Risk Rating 2.0 has unfairly increased flood insurance rates for millions of Floridians, making the coverage nearly unaffordable for working families who need it. Earlier this Congress, Senator Scott also reintroduced three bills, the Removing Barriers to Private Flood Insurance Act, the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act, and the Flood Insurance Transparency Act to reform the NFIP which would help lower the cost of flood insurance, build a more robust private market, and ensure the property insurance market better serves Florida families. Senator Scott’s NFIP package has been endorsed by the Federal Association for Insurance Reform (FAIR).

Following Biden Admin Approval of Additional Iran Sanctions Waivers, Sen. Rick Scott Demands Transparency

In response to the Biden administration’s recent decision to approve yet another Iran sanctions waiver, potentially worth billions of dollars, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Tim Scott and their colleagues in an effort to hold the Biden administration accountable and demand transparency for the American people on U.S. enabled payments to Iran, the leading state sponsor of terrorism. In a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the senators raised concerns that the latest waiver makes sanctioned Iranian funds, which could be used to fund terrorism, more accessible to the Iranian regime and disregards congressional intent calling for severe restrictions on payments to Iran.

Sen. Rick Scott Demands President Biden Reimpose Sanctions Against the Maduro Regime

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement demanding immediate action from President Biden to reimpose sanctions on Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. In October 2023, the Biden administration was played by Nicolás Maduro and his thugs and made a bad deal to lift sanctions, believing Maduro’s lie that his regime would allow free and fair elections in Venezuela. Since then, Maduro and his thugs have unjustly arrested several opposition leaders and blocked María Corina Machado from being on this year’s election ballot.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden and his administration got played by Dictator Nicolás Maduro and his thugs. It is absolutely pathetic that the president of the United States ran into the arms of a ruthless, murdering dictator and did exactly what they wanted. At the end of the day, Maduro failed to keep his promise to honor the legitimate candidacy of María Corina Machado and hold a free and fair election this year in Venezuela. Now Biden must honor his word and reimpose sanctions on the murderous Maduro regime. Maduro works with Iran, Russia, Middle East extremist terror groups, Communist China and Cuba. All evil regimes that hate America. He, just like his comrades in those countries, is a genocidal tyrant and a liar and yet Biden decided to trust him. Lifting U.S. sanctions and allowing money to flow into Venezuela because you’re counting on the word of a mad dictator is one of the most ridiculous things I could have imagined from this president. President Biden failed the American people and the Venezuelan people. It’s time for him and his administration to acknowledge their failure and immediately reimpose sanctions on Nicolás Maduro. Joe Biden has been a disaster for the fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela, but we will continue working alongside the freedom-loving Venezuelan people to bring democracy back to their country.”

Ahead of SSA Administrator Visit to Florida, Sen. Rick Scott Continues to Demand Answers on Biden’s Failure to Improve Solvency, Protect Future Benefits

In case you missed it, Senator Scott shared the following video ahead of Social Security Administrator Martin O’Malley’s visit to Florida today. During a recent hearing in the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, Senator Scott pushed Administrator O’Malley on the Biden administration’s failure to address looming insolvency issues within the Social Security Trust Fund that threaten future benefits. In his recently proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, President Biden failed to address these issues while pushing more massive spending that would increase the national debt by $6.4 trillion over the next four years, putting further stress on the federal government’s ability to keep its promises to the American people and protect the benefits of Social Security for future generations. Last year, Senator Scott introduced the Protect Our Seniors Act to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Sen. Rick Scott Slams Biden’s Lies About Bad Jobs Report

Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ March jobs report that showed part-time employment is up 691,000 jobs in March of 2024, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement along with a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Since President Biden took office, his so-called “Bidenomics” agenda has bankrupted American families and forced some into taking on multiple jobs to afford basic necessities like gas, rent and groceries.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While Democrats and their partners in the media are celebrating today’s jobs report and pushing lies about our economy, their fake narrative ignores the truth. This jobs report shows that full-time jobs are down AGAIN – dropping 6,000 month over month – while part-time jobs rose by nearly 700,000. That means that more Americans are working multiple jobs to make ends meet and deal with Biden’s skyrocketing inflation. This month’s jobs report also showed that unemployment among black Americans is up again, rising a full percentage point to 6.4% – the highest it’s been in two years. President Biden has led America into economic disaster and families in Florida and all across America are paying the price for his failures. These figures make President Biden’s recent decision to cut Medicare benefits for the second year in a row even more disgusting. Everywhere you look, American families are suffering more under Biden’s failed leadership and no amount of lies in the press or in White House press releases will change that sad reality for hardworking families. It has never been more clear that we need new leadership in the White House that puts American workers first and brings fiscal sanity back to Washington.”
