Congressman Byron Donalds

August 30, 2021

Last week, Speaker Pelosi called Session for a number of days requiring Members of Congress to return to Washington, D.C. to vote on President Biden’s outrageous $3.5 trillion spending package. Upon returning back to Southwest Florida, I was grateful to be provided ample time to meet with constituents, local leaders, and our first responders.

Just days ago, we honored and celebrated one of the most prolific & defining moments in our nation’s history: Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. His words and their impact created monumental change for all Americans. 58 years later, we celebrate & honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr and his work towards equality & justice for all. For we are a better nation, a stronger and more free nation, because of MLK and his fierce belief that we can all be free.

As the crisis in Afghanistan worsens, we mourn the loss of 12 U.S. Marines and 1 Navy Medic. Erika and I are praying for the mothers & fathers who are grieving the loss of their children, for their spouses left behind, and for their brothers and sisters in uniform. As the names, faces, and stories of those we lost begin to be shared with the public, we as a nation are reminded of just how fragile life is, how grateful we are to live in America, and the harrowing price of freedom. The honorable service and sacrifice of these fallen Americans will never be forgotten. As our nation mourns this devastating attack on our service members, we must remember Home of the Free, Because of the Brave.

To every veteran – of Afghanistan or otherwise – your service and sacrifice doesn’t go unthanked or unappreciated. If you need extra support during this difficult time, please know you are never alone. Please reach out, ask for help, and talk to someone. Call the Veterans Crisis Line 1-800-273-8255 or text 838-255.

Calling on President Biden to Resign

Calling on the leader of the free world to resign his office immediately weighs heavy on my heart, but due to the recent events that have taken place in Afghanistan, this must happen to restore American’s safety both at home & abroad, our honor, & faith in the Chief Executive to faithfully execute the duties of the Presidency.

See my full statement below:

Community Engagement

This past week, I held a Town Hall in Estero. The first of many, this Town Hall served as an opportunity for residents to ask questions and hear from me directly on the most pressing issues facing our community and our nation. Thank you to all of those who attended the meeting to share their concerns and discuss ways my office can work to best serve you and the Southwest Florida community.

To the Lee County Sherriff Deputies who attended to ensure the safety of myself, my staff, and every attendee – thank you! Their attention to detail, great work, and service for our community does not go unappreciated.

Our firefighters, paramedics, and first responders are the backbone of our community and it was an honor to visit the San Carlos Fire Department this past week. Thank you to Fire Chief David Cambareri for giving my staff and I a tour of the station, to hear more about the work you do to keep our community safe, and ways in which the federal government can better serve you. Being able to sit down with firefighters and paramedics about the work they do, their mental health, and how COVID-19 has impacted them was extremely beneficial and eye-opening. I’m extremely thankful for the great work they do each and everyday.

To learn more about how COVID-19 is impacting Southwest Florida, our doctors and nurses, and how my office can help, I had the opportunity to tour the NCH Baker Hospital in South Naples and Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers. Meeting with the doctors, ICU nurses, and administration staff who are on the front lines combatting COVID-19 was extremely crucial to understand the magnitude of this virus and the importance of getting vaccinated.

To those on the frontlines working overtime to keep our communities and loved ones safe, we appreciate you!

This past week, I was thankful for the chance to meet & talk with SWFL’s own law enforcement officers. Today & every day, I’m appreciative of the work they do to keep our community safe.

To all of the brave men & women in uniform across the country, we thank you for your tireless service.

Rep. Donalds’ Statement of Speaker Pelosi’s Reinstated House Mask Mandate

WASHINGTON — Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement slamming Speaker Pelosi’s newly reinstated mask mandate in the House of Representatives.

“In the early days of the 117th Congress, I joined my Republican colleagues in demanding that truth return to the nation’s capital, especially in light of the showmanship and anti-science COVID protocols Speaker Pelosi then ordered. Here we are nearly seven months later, and I again call on truth in our nation’s capital regarding the Speaker’s recent reinstated mask mandate in the House of Representatives. Here are the facts: The basis of this decision comes from a study that hasn’t been printed yet, based in India and on a vaccine that isn’t even in America, and that failed peer review,” said Rep. Donalds.

“Throughout this pandemic, the so-called experts, big media, and Democrats have called into question the validity of public health and the objectivity of science, all while furthering their political power and using it to divide Americans. The Democrats are the only ones to blame for vaccine hesitancy. They spent the entire rollout of Operation Warp Speed calling into question the validity of the vaccine, and today their rules call in to question any incentive to get inoculated. I have said it before, and I will repeat it: I encourage every American to get vaccinated—but at the end of the day, it is the right of every American to decide to do so, not the government.

“To date, over 75 percent of those over the age of 65, the most vulnerable to COVID, are fully vaccinated, and we must continue to provide every American with the information and resources necessary to make the health decision that is best for them. Speaker Pelosi needs to stop the games. Let’s not forget, she flew in a COVID positive Democrat member to D.C. to ensure she had the votes necessary to become Speaker—this has never been about following the science; it has been about whatever works for Nancy.”

TWEET: It’s time we speak truth in the nation’s capital.

Rep. Donalds Appointed to New Congressional Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) announced his nominating Rep. Byron Donalds (FL-19) as a Member of Congress’ new Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness Growth.

“Ensuring that every American has access to the American Dream and economic prosperity is only possible in a free and capitalistic society that allows for equality of access to success, not by controlling outcomes through raising taxes, wealth distribution, and government dependence. I am grateful to Leader McCarthy for appointing me to this Select Committee and allowing me the opportunity to advocate for the policies that will empower Americans of all backgrounds: lower taxes, fewer regulations, less government interference, and pro-American energy policies.

“As a proud Floridian, I will bring the pro-growth, pro-small business, and pro-Floridian agenda that has attracted many people and businesses to the Sunshine State,” said Congressman Donalds. My Democrat colleagues like to preach about income inequality and the so-called systemic racism rooted in our economic system, yet many of these issues derive from and thrive in America’s most liberal states and cities. I am determined to allow for an economic environment that encourages innovation, growth, and opportunity for all Americans to succeed.”

“My priorities on the select committee are to support all workers, empower families, and strengthen our economy with pro-growth legislation. Our nation is at a crossroads. We can continue down the current path of big government, socialist policies or change course. I will advocate for policies to ensure everyone can sit down at the dinner table feeling financially secure. By prioritizing our workforce and getting government out of the way, we can create family-supporting jobs. I look forward to working with Byron to bring commonsense solutions to issues impacting rural, suburban, and urban communities,” said Ranking Member Bryan Steil.

Fellow Members of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth Include:
Rep. Jim Himes (CT-14), Chair
Rep. Bryan Steil (WI-01), Ranking Member
Rep. Warren Davidson (OH-08)
Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19)

Congressman Byron Donalds

July 12, 2021

Last week, the House of Representatives entered a district work week. I spent my week in the district where I had the opportunity to attend hearings and continue to fight for conservative values in #FL19!

President Trump took a strong stand against the Big Tech oligopoly last week when he announced he plans to sue Facebook, Twitter, and Google over censorship in a class-action filing. His actions come after he was banned as the sitting President of the United States this past year. Freedom of speech is a Constitutional right that every American should exercise freely without the Big Tech giants threatening censorship. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been vocal in the fight against censorship, and I applaud former President Trump for speaking out against this unjust silencing. If the sitting President can be banned, every American is at risk. It is time we hold Big Tech accountable and ensure all Americans can speak their minds and voice their concerns in our great nation.

Over the Independence Day holiday, Chicago saw at least 108 people shot with 17 fatalities, marking the highest historical number recorded over the holiday weekend. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot reportedly asked President Biden for help after the tragic weekend in her city. The reason for this skyrocketing crime in Democrat-run localities is because they defunded the police; don’t let the Democrats fool you into thinking otherwise. If Mayor Lightfoot did not take radical action against our men and women in blue, we would not see these daily tragedies. The Biden Administration continues to use rising crime as fuel to push for gun control. The American people do not want gun control which only hurts law-abiding citizens; they want law and order in their streets. Democrat leaders fail to take action to protect the American people while lives are lost daily.

A special congratulations to Tampa Bay Lightning for winning the Stanley Cup! Another win for our great state of Florida. Go Bolts!

Lastly, my wife, Erika, and I continue to pray for all those impacted in the Surfside tragedy as the rescue mission continues.

Hurricane Preparedness

Last week, Tropical Storm Elsa brought heavy rains, sustained winds of more than 60 MPH and flash floods to our community. I pray for all those impacted by this storm. Please visit my website for information on Hurricane preparedness in SWFL.

Community Engagement

I had the opportunity to speak at the Tiger Bay Club in Tampa. The Tiger Bay Club is a non-partisan political forum. I was able to provide a legislative update from Capitol Hill, engage with constituents, as well as answer and address questions and concerns.

Upcoming Tele-Town Hall

I am hosting a Tele-Town Hall on July 19, 2021 at 7:00PM EST. This Tele-Town Hall serves as an opportunity for constituents to recieve a Congressional update and to provide their insights on how my office can best serve them and our community. For more details please visit my website.

Weekly Wrap-Up with
Congressman Byron Donalds
July 2, 2021

I spent this week in Washington, D.C., advocating for the values of the people of Southwest Florida, as the U.S. House of Representatives remained in session. Erika and I continue to pray for all the families impacted by the devastating building collapse in Surfside and all those working tirelessly in the rescue mission. I also commend the bipartisan efforts coming from Local, State, and Federal agencies. Through great tragedy, Americans know how to put politics aside and come together to help those in need, and we should all be grateful for that.

This week we saw former President Trump visit the Rio Grande Valley and witness firsthand the crisis on the Southern Border as a result of the Biden-Harris Administration unfolding the Trump-era immigration policies that kept our country safe. Securing our border should not be political. The men and women of ICE and CBP do not represent a political party; they represent the rule of law and security for every American. These brave men and women need leadership out of Washington that recognizes the need to finish the wall, enforce immigration law, and adequately fund border security agencies.

Secondly, the Democrat party and Biden Administration proved once again they are the party of hypocrisy as Press Secretary Jen Psaki dared to claim that Republicans are to blame on the issue of defunding the police. Rising crime in our nation is entirely at the hands of liberal lawmakers who have neglected our law enforcement officers and seen the dangerous consequences of defunding the police. It is time they take responsibility for their failed policies and take action to ensure our cities remain safe for all Americans.

Lastly, the House of Representatives voted to create a January 6th Commission that is entirely entended further to politize the atrocity of this dark day in history. As a House Oversight and Reform Committee member, I sit on one of the two committees with proper jurisdiction for investigating the events that unfolded. Unfortunately, Democrats have blocked vital witnesses like the U.S. Capitol Police from testifying in front of the Committee and gain the necessary information needed. This Commission is nothing more than a distraction from the abysmal policies the Democrats are pushing.

Please continue reading for a legislative update and the most up-to-date guide to what’s happening on Capitol Hill!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day!

245 years ago, America adopted the Declaration of Independence & began its journey of becoming the greatest nation known to man.

Today I am grateful for all those who served to protect the Red, White, & Blue, & I thank God that I am an American.

Weekly Wrap-Up with Congressman Byron Donalds

This week, the House of Representatives entered a committee work week. I spent my week in the district where I had the opportunity to meet with the hardworking constituents of FL-19, tour the vast ecosystems of Southwest Florida, and virtually attend numerous Congressional committee hearings.

The hypocrisy of the Democrats was evident this week as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was spotted at a dinner party with twelve friends, breaking her own state’s COVID-19 dining restrictions. While businesses suffer from draconian lockdowns, liberal leaders continue to violate their own rules. I am proud to represent the 19th district of Florida, where small businesses are able to prosper without tyrannical government lockdowns and mandates.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill this week to combat the censorship of Floridians by Big Tech. The bill allows people that are treated unjustly by Big Tech to sue for monetary damages. This decision by Governor DeSantis bolsters efforts to preserve and protect freedom of speech for all Floridians and take a stand against the Big Tech oligopoly. Freedom of speech is a Constitutional right that every American should be able to exercise freely without the threat of censorship by Big Tech platforms.

This upcoming Monday, May 31 is Memorial Day. Join me in honoring those who have selflessly gave their lives fighting for the United States Armed Forces. We recognize America’s fallen heroes who have made the greatest sacrifice to their country and in defense of freedom around the globe; we are forever indebted to their service and bravery.

This week the House Small Business Committee held a hearing on an examination of the SBA’s COVID-19 programs. As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I had the opportunity to address the witness, Administrator Guzman, and learn about the challenges currently facing our nation’s small businesses and how Congress can help bolster our economy and implement effective economic relief.

Despite being required by law, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was not present at the hearing. If the Biden administration truly cared about our nation’s small businesses, Secretary Yellen would be testifying before the committee.

Click the link below to watch my exchange with Admin. Guzman:

Rep. Donalds Gets an Answer on How Planned Parenthood has received $90 million in taxpayer funds through the COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program.

Recently, I signed on as a Co-Sponsor to The Return to Work Act and Help Wanted Act which benefit our nation’s workers as we rebound from the pandemic.

The Return to Work Act, introduced by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), would end the $300 per week Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation benefit. It is time to end government paychecks and focus on bringing back our strong American workforce. Click the link below to read more about this legislation.

Return to Work Act

I also Co-Sponsored the Help Wanted Act, introduced by Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-NY), which addresses our nation’s severe labor shortage that was caused by federal unemployment policy. It requires states to restore work search requirements to continue receiving and distributing enhanced unemployment benefits. It also removes the provision in the CARES Act that allows individuals to collect unemployment benefits if they voluntarily decided to leave their job. Finally, it clarifies that individuals can no longer collect Pandemic Unemployment Assistance if they decline work based on generic safety concerns related to COVID-19.

I will continue to fight every day on behalf of American workers and ensure our economy is supported by our businesses. Click the link below to learn more about this critical legislation.

Help Wanted Act

I Co-Signed the Restaurant Revitalization Fund letter, lead by Rep. Jim Hagedorn (R-MN), to the Small Business Administration. Restaurants have suffered a massive hit from the pandemic. On May 24, 2021, the Restaurant Revitalization Fund was closed. The letter calls upon SBA to provide justification as to why they are giving preference to individuals that may lack proper documentation, or an unknown immigrant, over our American citizens. Additionally, we emphasize the Biden Administration’s strategy of choosing winners and losers. It is critical that funds allocated by Congress go to the intended recipients, and Americans deserve transparency from the Small Business Administration.

As a free-market capitalist, I am a strong believer in letting the free-market dictate the economy, rather than the federal government produced widespread discrimination.

This week, I was proud to join my fellow Florida House GOP colleagues to tour Lake Okeechobee and meet with local leaders who are dedicated to keeping Florida’s water clean and safe. Fighting for safe water quality in Southwest Florida is one of my top priorities; I am grateful for the opportunity to ensure Florida has a voice in Washington in resolving this critical issue.

This week, I hosted a Veterans Town Hall in Fort Myers where I met with Veterans from Southwest Florida. I was able to hear directly from the SWFL veteran community as they expressed their concerns. I look forward to bringing their comments to D.C. in order to ensure the federal government is properly serving our servicemen and women. It is an honor to represent our American heroes in Congress and I will continue to fight on their behalf every day.

Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Pat Toomey (R-Penn) Introduce Senate Companion of Rep. Donalds’ COVID-19 Vaccine IP Protection Bill

WASHINGTON – Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) introduced a Senate companion of Rep. Byron Donalds’ COVID vaccine IP protection bill in the United States Senate. The Preventing Foreign Attempts to Erode Healthcare Innovation Act would prevent the Biden administration from relinquishing intellectual property (IP) protections on COVID-19 vaccines, a move that would hand over our IP to malign actors like the Chinese Communist Party and undermine American innovation.

“It deeply concerns me to hear of the Biden Administration’s plan to forgo IP protections on COVID-19 vaccines. This plan is a direct infringement upon American ingenuity and innovation and hands over our nation’s intellectual prowess for the world’s taking,” said Rep. Byron Donalds. “This Administration has made it a point to put America last, and this is just another glaring example of this sad reality. I appreciate my Senate colleagues Sen. Tim Scott and Sen. Pat Toomey, for championing my bill in the United States Senate and joining my efforts to prevent the Biden Administration from senselessly giving away America’s intellectual property to countries like China.”

The Senate companion bill was introduced yesterday by Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Pat Toomey (R-Penn.)

“The United States has already pledged more money than any other country toward global vaccine efforts,” said Senator Tim Scott. “President Biden’s willingness to cave to the World Trade Organization instead of guarding one of our most valuable assets from getting into the hands of bad actors is concerning. The president needs to draw a clear line in dealing with Beijing, and releasing our data ensures that China will benefit off the hard work and innovation of American workers, and will also ensure our next vaccine takes longer to develop.”

“The Biden Administration should protect the intellectual property of American companies, especially those that produced COVID vaccines in record time,” said Senator Toomey. “Instead, the administration is advocating foreign countries expropriate these precious American assets. Our bill would limit the administration from pursuing this misguided policy, ensuring American companies can continue their vaccine distribution efforts without fear of losing their intellectual property.”

Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.) are also cosponsors of the Preventing Foreign Attempts to Erode Healthcare Innovation Act.

Background:
The bill bars the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) from supporting the waiver of certain World Trade Organization (WTO) intellectual property protections for COVID-19 vaccines, as the Biden Administration announced it would.
The bill accomplishes this by “prohibiting the authorization of appropriations to USTR for supporting a measure at the WTO waiving certain intellectual property rights.”

Weekly Wrap-Up with

Congressman Byron Donalds

May 17, 2021

This past week, the House Republican Conference voted on new leadership, entrusting Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to lead our party in working towards taking back the majority in 2022 as our Conference Chair. The Republican Party welcomes healthy debate and differing opinions, but when serving in a leadership position, it is imperative to have a leader committed to prioritizing the party’s future and not petty political infighting that distracts from talking about the issues impacting the people. So, now that we have voted for a new voice in leadership, I am ready to get back to the critical issues that our country is facing: getting Americans back to work, re-opening our schools, and strengthening our economy, and securing our border.

Americans on the East Coast suffered from a gas shortage this past week due to Russian hackers looking to dismantle our economy. While the Colonial Pipeline is currently back up and running, Americans are still feeling the financial burden at the pump. This incident is further proof that we as a nation need to strengthen our energy and fuel independence. We must not allow our adversaries to threaten and hold hostage American energy independence. The hacking and shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline is further proof of how vital the Keystone Pipeline is to the Western United States. Thousands of jobs, energy independence, and affordable access to gasoline for millions of Americans- it’s time to reverse this policy and resume construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Despite spending this past week in The Swamp, my staff and I engaged in multiple community events in Southwest Florida. We proudly held our first Tele-Town Hall, which provided our office a way to communicate with thousands of residents at once. We look forward to hosting more in the future as a medium to offer Congressional updates, answer your questions, and learn ways we can work to better the Southwest Florida community.

Please continue reading to learn more about important legislation in Congress, upcoming events in #FL19, and ways in which I’m working to advocate for conservative policies in D.C.!

Legislative Updates

This past week, I spoke on the House Floor, along with several of my House Republican colleagues, on the evils and dangers of cancel culture and the impact it has on our society. Click below to watch my speech:

Rep. Byron Donalds: “We must be free to speak at all times.”

In recognition of National Police Week, I’m proud to join my colleagues Representative Michael Guest (R- MS) and Representative Julia Letlow (R-LA) in Co-Sponsoring legislation that rightfully honors our nation’s fallen police officers. We must reaffirm our support to the LEO community in remembering & honoring the heroes in blue who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Read the legislation in its entirety below:

H.R. 386 – Expressing Support for Recognizing “National Police Week”

Last week, the House Committee on Oversight & Reform held a hearing detailing the tragic events that occurred on January 6th in the U.S. Capitol. As a member appointed to serve the House Committee on Oversight & Reform, I had the opportunity to ask questions to the testifying witnesses. Former United States Secretary of Defense under President Trump Christoper Miller answered my question regarding President Trump’s support of sending the National Guard to Washington D.C., prior to January 6th. Watch the exchange below:

Miller Says Trump Wanted Troops to Protect Supporters on Jan. 6th

In the 21st century, we must teach and learn from our history and swear never to repeat it, but we cannot use our past to divide us, which Critical Race Theory will undoubtedly do.

I am proud to stand with my House Republican Colleagues in supporting Representative Burgess Owens (R-UT) in this critical legislation.

National Police Week

I was proud to sign the Police Pledge, put forth by Heritage Action for America. By signing the Police Pledge, I am re-affirming my commitment and support to our nation’s police officers and will stand in opposition to any legislation or measure that intends to ‘Defund the Police’.

In recognition of National Police Week, I had the privilege of honoring our law enforcement heroes on the House Floor.

Every day police officers kiss their families goodbye to protect & serve their communities. God bless them for their sacrifice. Watch my full speech below:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) held a memorial service at the National Police Officer Memorial site in Washington, D.C., to honor all of the LEO’s we have tragically lost.

Last year, there were 362 total deaths in the line of duty, and this year our nation has lost 124 police deaths. Each death is a tragic reminder of the selfless courage embodied by every man and woman who serves in law enforcement.

May we never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

In the Media

I had the opportunity to join Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show, ‘The Ingraham Angle’ last week. In a panel alongside House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), we discussed the newest CDC guidelines regarding mask mandates, Liz Cheney, and the continued failures of the Biden Administration. Click the link below for the full interview:

Rep. Donalds: “[americans] Don’t Want These Liberal Crazy Policies”

ICYMI: I joined Elizabeth MacDonalds on her Fox News show, ‘The Evening Edit’ to discuss the gas shortage that occurred last week on the East Coast and why President Biden needs to re-affirm and embrace our energy infrastructure and independence. Click below to watch the full interview:

FL Congressman Byron Donalds Joins The Evening Edit

I joined the Chris Salcedo Show on Newsmax last week to discuss the ignorance and intolerance I have faced from the American Left. Watch below:

Rep.Byron Donalds: on Intolerance

I was happy to sit down with Jimmy Failla for his radio show “Fox Across America” to discuss the future of the Republican Party, the impact of President Trump post-presidency, the dangers of critical race theory being taught in our schools, and so much more. Click below to listen!

Community Engagement

As a reminder to the veterans within Southwest Florida, on May 24th I am hosting a Veterans Town Hall. This event serves as an opportunity for veterans to receive a Congressional update, learn about available federal resources, and for my office to learn how we can best serve and assist the veteran community. For event details, click on the link to my website below:

Rep. Donalds Hosts Veteran Town Hall

This past week, I had the honor of hosting my first Military Service Academy Day. Held virtually this year, Academy Day serves as an opportunity for interested service academy candidates and parents alike to learn about the application process. I’m grateful to those on the Selection Committee, who have volunteered their time, knowledge, and expertise to ensure Southwest Florida sends the most qualified candidates to our nation’s military service academies.

Serving the hardworking men and women of Florida’s 19th Congressional District is my distinct honor and privilege. It’s time Washington works for our community’s values, and every day I will always strive to ensure your government is working for you.

Rep. Donalds Co-Sponsors Legislation to Combat Critical Race Theory

WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined several of his Republican House colleagues in co-sponsoring two pieces of legislation introduced by Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT). Both pieces of legislation address the Biden Administration’s proposal to fund education programs informed by Critical Race Theory (CRT).

The paired legislation, which includes a bill that would restrict the teaching of Critical Race Theory within federal institutions and a resolution that highlights the dangers of teaching CRT in U.S. schools, underlines the systemic racism and damaging philosophy within this prejudicial ideological tool.

Upon introduction, Rep. Donalds said:

“Critical Race Theory is a warped ideology that seeks to divide Americans and relitigate the sins of the past by pinning White Americans against Black Americans, which is counterproductive and doesn’t belong anywhere near our children.

“America’s history regarding race is troublesome and deserves the proper attention, but we cannot allow for the degradation of American values and culture through so-called equity training. In the 21st century, we must teach and learn from our history and swear never to repeat it, but we cannot use our past to divide us, which Critical Race Theory will undoubtedly do.”

Rep. Owens said:

“I grew up attending segregated schools in the Jim Crow South during a time when people were treated differently based on the color of their skin. Critical Race Theory preserves this way of thinking and undermines civil rights, constitutionally guaranteed equal protection before the law, and U.S. institutions at large. This is the United States of America, and no one should ever be subjected to the discrimination that our laws so clearly prohibit.”

RSC Chairman Banks said:

“Teaching students to be ashamed of our country and to judge each other based on their race is wrong and divisive. It’s terrifying how quickly the left abandoned its commitment to equal treatment under the law. The White House must stop promoting discrimination based on skin color. I am proud to support Rep. Burgess Owens in his important efforts today.”
