Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, as America’s great ally, Israel, was attacked by the Iran-backed terrorist group, Hamas, Senator Rick Scott led the charge to support Israel’s right to defend itself. Senator Scott led 30 of his colleagues in introducing a resolution condemning the Hamas terrorist attacks, and reaffirming the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel and its right to take whatever means are necessary to stop the murder of its citizens and foreign nationals residing there.

Senator Scott also led a press conference with his colleagues to show their support for Israel and call out Senate Democrats for their silence. Watch more HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott: Israel Deserves Full and Unequivocal U.S. Support

Senators Rick Scott led 30 of his colleagues to announce a resolution condemning the attacks against Israel by Hamas, an Iranian-backed and funded terrorist organization, and reaffirming the United States’ unwavering commitment to our ally Israel and its right to take whatever means are necessary to stop the murder of its citizens and foreign nationals residing in Israel. Senator Scott will lead his colleagues in introducing the resolution and asking for the Senate’s unanimous consent to pass it later this week. This resolution is endorsed by the Republican Jewish Coalition and the Zionist Organization of America.

Senator Rick Scott said, “For decades, the people of Israel have endured unyielding attacks from terrorist groups, like Hamas, who wish to destroy the Jewish state and its people. Now, as thousands of rockets rain down, our resolve to stand with Israel must be stronger than ever. I want to be clear: no country, certainly not the United States, would tolerate attacks like these and not take whatever action is necessary to end them. As our great ally and the only shining example of democracy in the Middle East, Israel deserves our full support.

“The anti-Israel attacks and agenda I’ve seen pushed by supposed ‘leaders’ like AOC and Senator Bernie Sanders are disgusting and antithetical to American ideals. Let’s remember what we are witnessing: these are terrorists ruthlessly attacking an ally. Defense of these terrorists is unthinkable. Acts of aggression toward Israel will never be tolerated. I’m proud to lead a resolution reaffirming the United States’ full and unapologetic support for Israel as it defends its citizens from these reprehensible attacks. It’s time for President Biden to stop cowering to the anti-Israel radical left and remind these terrorists and the world of the United States’ strong and unwavering support of the Israeli people.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Bernie Sanders Blocks Sen. Rick Scott Resolution to Support Israel, Condemn Hamas

Senator Rick Scott introduced and asked for passage of his resolution condemning the continued attacks by Hamas terrorists on Israel and reaffirming the United States’ unwavering commitment to our ally on the Senate floor. Senator Scott’s resolution was co-sponsored by 30 of his colleagues. Senator Bernie Sanders blocked its passage on the Senate floor.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I’m disgusted to see the anti-Israel agenda being pushed by the radical Left and perpetuated by Bernie Sanders today as he blocked my resolution to stand with Israel. Israel is a country surrounded by nations and terrorist groups that want it wiped off the face of the Earth. Israel is under attack, yet the Democrats refuse to stand with our ally and are responsible for the anti-Israel rhetoric permeating the halls of Congress. Today, Democrats chose to defend Hamas terrorists, push for the stop of arms sales to our ally and promote anti-Israel rhetoric that’s fueling the fire for hate. We must never accept a weakened position on Israel, and the Democrats should be ashamed of this action today.” See more in the video HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Amendments to Endless Frontier Act to Put American Interests First

Senator Rick Scott announced several amendments to the Endless Frontier Act that he will introduce to hold Communist China accountable, improve national security, secure our supply chains and protect American interests.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Since being elected to the Senate just two years ago, I’ve been clear that the threat posed by Communist China is the most significant national security issue facing the United States. Communist China’s actions over this short time have made abundantly clear that the United States is in a new Cold War with Communist China.

“I’ve sponsored and supported more than 40 pieces of legislation focused on addressing the security of our supply chains, holding Communist China fully responsible for its disgusting human rights abuses and genocide against Uyghur Muslims, enhancing our ability to innovate and develop new technology and countering Beijing’s unfair trade practices. As it stands, much of the Endless Frontier Act will not effectively counter Communist China’s aggression. A slush fund to universities with little security and oversight isn’t the answer. That’s why I’m filing these critical amendments to secure American innovation, protect our national security, hold Communist China accountable and put American interests first. That is where our legislative efforts must begin.” Read more HERE.

Democrats Block Sens. Rick Scott, Ron Johnson Amendment to Hold Communist China Accountable, Promote Fiscal Responsibility

The United States Senate voted on Senator Rick Scott’s amendment with Senators Ron Johnson, Marsha Blackburn, Cynthia Lummis, Ted Cruz, Todd Young and Tom Cotton to divert unobligated funds from the Democrats’ wasteful so-called “COVID” bill, the American Rescue Plan Act, to pay for the authorized funding in the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act of 2021. Every Republican Senator present voted in favor of this amendment, but Democrats blocked its passage.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Congress must take action to hold Communist China accountable and ensure our nation has the resources it needs to combat the threat from this great adversary, but we should do that in a fiscally responsible way. That’s what our amendment does. It simply pays for provisions in the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act by using unobligated and unnecessary funding from the Democrats’ American Rescue Plan. Only in Washington, where Democrats believe debt isn’t real and spending has no consequences, would Democrats block such a reasonable measure. I won’t accept the lie that government waste, high debt and massive spending is inevitable, and neither should the American people. I will never stop fighting to protect the tax dollars of hardworking families in Florida and across the nation.” See more in the video HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott: Biden Must Be Held Accountable on Border Visit Promise

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement on his intention to hold President Biden’s nominees to fill positions at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until the president visits the border and confronts the dangerous national security threat and humanitarian crisis at the southern border, caused by his open borders and amnesty policies.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden’s border crisis is raging out of control, yet Biden and Harris refuse to acknowledge the crisis or visit the southern border to see this national security and humanitarian emergency firsthand. The Biden Administration’s ignorance to this crisis is completely unacceptable and a dereliction of its responsibility to the American people and their safety. The policies Biden and Harris have implemented are endangering our brave Border Patrol agents and Americans on the frontlines of our border communities and throughout our entire nation. We can’t let it happen. DHS is obligated to enforce our immigration laws.

“Last week, I asked DHS Secretary Mayorkas if he was disappointed that President Biden has not been to the border to see the crisis he has created. His response, ‘absolutely not.’ It’s clear that there is no sense of urgency, responsibility or leadership on border security coming out of the White House. Until Biden decides to care about the safety of the American people and Border Patrol agents on the frontlines, and actually gets down to the border to see his crisis firsthand, I will do everything in my power to hold Biden’s DHS nominees on the Senate floor. Apprehensions at the border have reached over 178,000 in April alone, nearly 6,000 a day. If Biden refuses to help those risking their lives every day to keep us safe, and put an end to a humanitarian crisis he has recklessly created, I can’t allow his nominees to move forward in an expedited fashion. His crisis can no longer be ignored. The American people deserve accountability, and to know that our country is secure and our families are being protected. I won’t accept anything less.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Budget Committee Must Address Biden’s Debt and Inflation Crises

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement urging Chairman Bernie Sanders to immediately call a hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Budget to address America’s growing debt crisis and the rising inflation caused by President Joe Biden’s reckless tax and spend agenda.

With the passage of the Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, which dedicated less than 10% of funding to fighting COVID-19, America’s federal debt is nearing $30 trillion. Last week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the April Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) were up 4.2% and 6.2%, respectively, the largest 12-month advances since 2008.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While President Biden and his team of inflation and debt deniers hide from reality, American families are paying the price. Gas prices are up. Lumber prices are up. Bread, eggs and meat are all more expensive now than when Biden took office. Today, as inflation rises and America’s debt rockets toward $30 trillion, I am calling for Chairman Bernie Sanders to immediately call a hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Budget to address these urgent crises.

“Inflation is a tax on America’s working families. Rising prices are devastating to low and fixed-income Americans. I grew up poor and watched my parents struggle to put food on the table. My message to Biden and the Democrats is simple: enough is enough. It’s time for Senate Democrats to stand with their Republican colleagues, do their jobs, and start holding the Biden Administration accountable for the financial ruin it is so desperately trying to create. With the debt ceiling expiring on July 31, we must tackle these issues head-on and chart a new and fiscally responsible path forward that protects families and our nation’s financial security. I look forward to Chairman Sanders immediately scheduling a hearing and the committee starting the important work of solving Biden’s debt and inflation crises before even more families are hurt.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Issues Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

As the Biden Administration continues to mislead the American public about how Washington’s reckless spending is leading to inflation and rising prices of every day goods, Senator Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Senator Scott is urging the Biden Administration to take responsibility for his wasteful spending and release a plan to curb the threat of rising inflation on American families. Congresswoman Miller Introduces House Companion to Sen. Rick Scott’s Bill to Repeal Biden Administration’s Tax Increase on Gig Economy Workers

Congresswoman Carol Miller introduced a House companion bill to Senator Rick Scott’s legislation repealing the hidden provision in the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion “COVID” spending bill that increases taxes on gig workers and self-employed Americans.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden claims he won’t raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000, but that’s a lie – he’s already done it. Along with trillions in unnecessary and unrelated in spending in their so-called ‘COVID’ spending package, Biden and the Democrats snuck in a tax increase on gig workers, like hardworking Americans that work as drivers for Uber, Lyft or DoorDash. While Democrats refuse to acknowledge the reality that their reckless spending is causing inflation, and that increasing costs and regulations on already-struggling Americans is wrong, I’ll keep fighting to protect working class families. Our bill does just that by repealing this bad tax policy.” Read more from Congressman Miller’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Kevin Cramer and Colleagues in Bill to Reverse Biden’s Nord Stream 2 Actions, Expand Sanctions on Russia

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Kevin Cramer and colleagues in introducing the Protecting Our Well-being by Expanding Russian Sanctions (POWERS) Act, legislation to build on recently-passed bipartisan sanctions against Russia and reinstate sanctions the Biden Administration is waiving on Russian people and entities involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The bill follows the announcement the State Department has reversed its previous stance and is lifting sanctions on Nord Stream 2 AG, the entity in charge of the pipeline, and Matthias Warnig, its CEO.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Biden administration’s energy agenda is killing jobs, reducing U.S. independence and increasing reliance on our adversaries, like Russia. Within months of cancelling the Keystone pipeline, and thousands of American jobs along with it, Biden is cozying up to Putin and making it easy for him to control energy supplies in Europe. We can’t allow President Biden to put America and our allies last. Our bill calls for the reinstatement and expansion of these sanctions on companies involved with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, so the U.S. has the power needed to hold bad actors accountable.” Read more from Senator Cramer’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to NBC: Don’t Pick and Choose When to Stand up for Human Rights; Refuse to Air 2022 Olympics Games in Communist China

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell and NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel urging them, once again, to condemn oppression and stand for human dignity by declining to air the 2022 Olympic Games unless they are moved out of Communist China. Senator Scott’s letter follows his previous letters (HERE and HERE) to NBC requesting they stand up for human rights and NBCUniversal’s decision to not air the 2022 Golden Globe Awards ceremony due to concerns about a lack of diversity among the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Sen. Rick Scott Recognizes Cuban Independence Day: I Will Never Stop Fighting for a New Day of Freedom in Cuba

In recognition of Cuban Independence Day, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement supporting the Cuban people in their ongoing fight for true freedom and democracy.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Today, it is my honor to celebrate the heritage of the Cuban people. Their history, culture, faith and contributions have enriched our beautiful state and our country. For decades, the Cuban people have suffered atrocities, oppression and misery at the hands of the communist Castro regime but that is not the future of Cuba. The Cuban spirit is strong and shining bright despite their struggle. I join the many Cuban-Americans across Florida and all who stand for freedom and democracy in honoring the brave and courageous people of Cuba and the activists fighting every day for human rights, freedom and the democratic movement on the island. I will always stand for those fighting tirelessly to bring a new day of freedom to Cuba. We cannot and will not ignore their struggle. We can’t let up until the Cuban people are truly free. A new day of freedom in our hemisphere begins with a free Cuba.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott and Phil Gramm in the Wall Street Journal: Biden’s Plans Are Already Hurting the Recovery

Senator Rick Scott and Senator Phil Gramm wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal on how President Joe Biden and the Democrats’ reckless spending plans are already causing inflation to rise, hurting American families and the U.S. economy.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott and Phil Gramm wrote, “… The end of the pandemic isn’t only unleashing the pent-up demand of the pre-shutdown economy. It is opening the floodgate to a torrent of spending fueled by fiscal and monetary stimulus not seen since the Civil War.

The U.S. economy clearly has the power to iron out the natural problems of restarting production, but the very nature of the subsidies in the $6 trillion Biden administration stimulus, relief and infrastructure bills constrain production. In its modern incarnation, socialism denies that government incentives and constraints have anything to do with people’s decisions to work, save and invest. Experience teaches otherwise…”

Sens. Rick Scott, Cynthia Lummis in Fox News: Our national debt is almost $30 trillion – let conservative states lead on reducing it

Senators Rick Scott and Cynthia Lummis wrote an op-ed on how Washington’s status quo of reckless and wasteful spending, which is leading our nation to $30 trillion in debt and rising inflation, isn’t working. In their op-ed, Senators Scott and Lummis detail what must be done to address America’s debt crisis and how their legislation, the Pay Down the Debt Act, will help fix it.

In the op-ed, Senators Rick Scott and Cynthia Lummis wrote, “With our national debt nearing a staggering $30 trillion, one would think that President Joe Biden would be ready to take a hard look at our spending and find ways to reduce it. Instead, in the just over 100 days that Joe Biden has been president, he’s proposed more than $6 trillion in new spending.

Even more troubling is that Biden refuses to address the basic question we and many Americans keep asking: ‘How do you plan to pay for all of this, Joe?’

We know that Biden can’t tax his way out of his own massive spending problem – but that won’t stop him from trying. His proposed tax increases would do more to wreck our economy than pay this tab. Clearly, something must change.

It is up to all of us to do our part to reduce the national debt.

As part of our commitment to taxpayers in our home states of Florida and Wyoming, as well as the entire nation, we’ve just introduced legislation to change the status quo.

Our bill, the Pay Down the Debt Act, would prevent any federal grant funds refused by a fiscally responsible state government from going to another state. Instead, our bill would require those funds to go to reduce our national debt.

Fiscally conservative citizens and elected officials must do everything in our power to reverse the direction of our deficit and debt spending. The future of our children and grandchildren depend on our actions.

This legislation is a real step to start reining in spending and reducing our debt.

For every dollar this legislation saves today, it is one less one that we have to pay back tomorrow.”
